A Guide of activating your Chinese/PerfectWorld Dota2

Recently Perfect World just made an unofficially change to Chinese Dota 2 , Chinese Dota 2 is now “open” to play, i.e a Chinese CDKEY is no longer required to play dota 2 in China. However, unlike the rest of the world(except south korea, you still need a nexon key to play with), you need to link perfect world account with your Dota2/Steam account. Here’s a simple guide.

  1. Go to http://members.dota2.com.cn/login to start registering your Perfect World account

  2. Fill up the register form and get your confirmation code through email don’t forget to check junk box if you’re not receiving.

  3. Now you have a PW account and it shows that you have not yet linked dota2/steam account

  4. Launch your dota2 with parameters, -perfectworld for perfectworld version and -language schinese for simplified chinese UI if u need. In addition, language in dota 2 here determines your in-game voice language, so far 3 languages available and you may need to download additional voice packs.

  5. Launch and you’ll see different screens, start linking process, and click play. Your Chinese/PerfectWorld dota2 is now activated. You may see anti-addiction warning and your login IP warning, that’s Chinese features.

PSAs:

  1. Uncheck -perfectworld in launch option and everything goes back to normal

  2. All dota2 in this world using steam server to store player data. although chinese dota2 client calls it dota2 account it’s actually a steam account in general i.e. All your settings / cosmetic items / game history will be the same.

  3. Launch in perfect world dota 2 entitles you to play matchmaking games or create lobbies in perfect world servers. However you can still watch games and queue with friends in other servers.

  4. What Nexon is doing now is the exact same thing, I think it’s valve insisting. To unite players from allover the world, unlike riot’s heavily region-restricted marketing. Despite Chinese Dota 2 FAQ is very funny to me, downloading script to edit [hosts](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file).

I live in Vancouver BC, I’ve played against LaoDang just before TI3 in PW server when PW email account is enabled. I got a decent win with average 230ms ping across the ocean. If you’re interested playing with chinese tryhard doto, you may just try.

You can ignore the rest

And I really want and need to point out what is untrue in post http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1ll4fh/volvo_is_failing_hard_in_china/ cause i got downvoted to hell by dota 2 circlejerks.

  1. For 2 years, it has been nearly impossible to play Dota2 in China. Before the Perfect World deal, Dota2 was hosted in Shanghai “illegally”. It means that VALVe had no legal right to host a video game in China. But; I guess; Dota being Dota and VALVe being VALVe, the chinese government was kind enough not to shut everything down (they really could have).

Untrue it’s quite playble. the “shanghai dota 2 server” was hosted not in shanghai actually, it was hosted by original Chinese TF2 server admins with the Valve’s help in Sep 2011, just after first TI, where most western players are still paying 2 Skyrims for Dota 2 in that Xmas. TF2 went F2P in late June 2011, and Alipay is enabled for steam in Sep 2011, Officially in Nov 2011.
Ever Since 奥美电子 bankrupted in 2006, there’s no agent/proxy selling any Valve games in China any more. HL2 is the last legal game in china. Chinese version CS is still restricted to play with Chinese IP only, you can’t delete it nor overwrite by buying a new steam copy. and soon Hong Kong server got removed around 2012 Thanksgiving to ease the pain of early Chinese Dota2 players. no play, no pain, isn’t that true? valve?

So how is Steam and TF2 “illegally” operating in the end? The only thing I can say TF2 has a very very small group of players compared to Dota 2 in China. As a Chinese player i really enjoy Orange Box, enjoy TF2, enjoy Portal 2, and enjoy the misery from Dota 2.

  1. In China the freshmen were ALL playing League of Legends. Seriously, the game is so big here, and I don’t work for Riot.

Untrue it’s not only China. SEA pro players are switching to lol also. Current scene, Taiwan/SEA/South Korea/North American are mostly league dominated. Chinese TI attendees Awoke and Seaking switched to lol, but the whole Scythe/Zenith Team except iceiceice switched to lol. Most of early CDKEYs came from SEA website. Chinese dota2 forums were all filled up with 东南亚码 which means SEA dota2 CDKEYS.

  1. All cosmetics previously bought are lost.

Completely untrue.

tl;dr Valve without Dota 2 everything goes right, doto 2 dead game riot fix plz

If you think anything i told was untrue, please correct me first before downvoting. Thank you very much

Once you’re in, if you want to play with fellow foreigners/english-speakers then we’ve got a great bunch over at Dota 2 China Expats

We’ve got an in-game guild that you can join too

Wait so Dota 2 is just suddenly out in China?

Recently Perfect World just made an unofficially change to Chinese Dota 2 , Dota 2 is now “open” to play

I’m assuming that’s what that means.

I’m curious, because I’m on Steam in China with no PerfectWorld. If I go the PW route, can I still play with ppl who are non-PW? What are the servers like for PW, if not the same? My biggest issue is that it takes forever to find a server in matchmaking, essentially doubling wait times from what they are in the states.

Can you shed some light on this issue? Thanks.

This guide no longer works. To register for a Perfect World account, there are additional inputs required: “Real Name” and “China identification number”.

Never mind, you can just use: http://idgen.larskort.org/

Just to shed some light, nothing happens to any of your items in your Steam account when you link with PW. PW is more like a login proxy that you will need to do only once. Items are not transferred anywhere - you are still playing on the same Steam account. Just when you want to connect to PW servers you add -perfectworld in launch opts. Remove it when you don’t want (e.g. you want play SEA).

I don’t understand your tl;dr.

But why would a non chinese speaker wants to play on chinese servers? Or we should stop blaming the russian players on the english language servers…

Looks like similar to me.

Thanks to you i got my new stone!

How do I enter @ for the e-mail field in-game? It treats my modifier key as . and places “.2”

I’m not playing from China but I think this is actually useful. Good to know the option is available.

Question: What is different in the ‘Chinese/Perfect World’ Dota2. Are the matchmaking queues separated? How about trading?

Joke Question: Are there ‘cyka’ players on these servers too?

what is the ping in the perfect world server if im from sea server?

Thanks OP! I just registered and played a coop bots match on PW server, 300 ping though, from USE

edit: damn i cant register, i got no verification code(using yahoo mail). someone help pls :frowning:

edit2: i solved it, i need to use qq.com email account.

i just skimmed through this in less than 10 secs but it seems good. ive been looking for a english guide for weeks before and couldnt find one. i evententually got into PW but it took a while. thanks for posting this (assuming it’s accurate)
