Adguard DNS and Apple’s Private Relay

I have been running AdGuard as a native DNS implementation on my
iPhone and have left private relay on and I believe both are actively working. With anything other than the native DNS implementation I wasn’t sure.

So do you use a filter then for dns?

I have keep it with “AdGuard DNS”

Gotcha. My understanding is that the dns doesn’t work either way in safari with relay. However, the safari extension content blocker will keep doing its thing, and the vpn dns will block ads in all your other apps.

So they do work in tandem in experience but not technically since the relay encrypts your outgoing safari stuff BEFORE it hits the adguard dns or dns filter.

This was helpful for me when I was trying to sort this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/Adguard/s/eGpG4y8wq3

I’m thinking that’s Mac specific? I’m using iOS. I have adguard pro which has the safari content blockers and the dns. So I believe that using the dns works everywhere that isn’t safari and the safari private relay screws up the dns filtering BUT the content blockers still do their job.

You may be right! I never really sorted it out on iOS. I am running it natively on my phone and have private relay on and I’ve been happy with the performance.
