Anybody know if we can get a code to get Matlab for free?

I have SolidWorks for free already (thank you MechE department), but I lowkey want Matlab on my computer because I use it as a calculator. Anybody know if we can get it or do I need to shell out $50?

I had to use MATLAB last semester through UFApps for free; it did tend to lag a bit since UFApps provides it as a virtual desktop interface + any files you download would be saved onto your (M:) drive and not locally on your computer, so it’s not the most convenient but it’s an option!

You need to shell out $100 for a license that can do more than 2+2 :skull: sorry dawg

Fr tho get the $100 version, it’ll save you later

Get the 100 dollar one, don’t make my mistake

A big school like UF does NOT provide free liscense to its engineering students to use for their CLASSES on their OWN computers???!!??? What kinda thinking is that, who was the smart one that though that out.
Is there a way to request them to add this, because I’m not using a virtual machine especially on my old laptop with slow internet.

UF has MATLAB licenses you should be able to access on a UF computer, like the computer room at NEB. If you really need a home version, just use Octave, its an open source analog.

EDIT: You can also access UF’s MATLAB app through a VPN. Just remember that the licenses are limited.

You can change the directory of the uf apps version to your local computer, you have to go to like C:, users, …

Damn :frowning: good to know though, thank you!

Does the $100 version have an expiry?

May I ask what your mistake was, exactly?

They’re such cheapskates fr

We have UFApps which uses Citrix Receiver to run programs like Matlab and SolidWorks and whatnot & it’s pretty good in my experience but I want Matlab on my computer permanently after I graduate

The base version of matlab doesn’t include controls toolbox, systems toolbox, etc. a bunch are required in different mech/aero classes, and if you buy them afterward, each is like 20-30 bucks.

The 100 dollar version includes everything you need, so you don’t have to worry about paying extra

I wonder who’s in charge of giving licenses to students. I would like to figure out how to get this problem fixed cuz making your students pay extra or pay an inconvenience factor is not college level thinking. Can we fill out a form to request the software license or something?

Update on my previous problem I was looking into for alumni’s. I have yet still to make tule to find out the culprit behind uf closing out alumni emails after graduation and not letting them setup an alumni email or just keep their old one. So far I believe it’s the alumni associations doing.

Yeah my undergrad had Citrix but we also could download the software to our computer as well and had licenses, I still have my matlab. Why did UF only make it so you guys hav to either be their computers or connect to Citrix. It’s just extremely lazy and cheap on their side

i want mathworks license

litterally any torrent site
