Atrocious ECN laptops

What the hell is up with the ECN laptops for temporary use? My laptop is broken and out for repair and in the meantime I’m using one that I book out in my ENGR class.

This thing is completely unusable. It takes literally 5 minutes to load up a single tab or open Firefox, and it’s not the internet that’s the problem. I have an in-class exam where I’d need to use this laptop next week and I’m starting to think I won’t even be able to load the exam up.

It would be understandable if these were ancient machines, but no. The Latitude 5440’s they use are from 2023 and currently sell for over $1200 on Dell’s website. How the fuck are these laptops running so bad? And is this where all my tuition is going towards?

These laptops should not suck this hard, and yet every one I use are terrible. What gives?

Leave it open, plugged in, and turned on for a few hours. It is probably struggling to download your user profile over wifi. After that dont log out of it, only lock it.

Is it possible this “loaner” laptop is from a classroom set in DUDL? If that is the case, they most likely have not been online since early December and its trying to install 3 months of Windows updates. In addition, they work best when connected to a Purdue wired network or if off campus, connected to the Purdue VPN. Considering the concerns, please reach out to the engineering IT support group and they will be happy to assist with the slowness issues and make sure it is up to date.

Maybe because you’re paying 2015 tuition prices in 2025

It’s probably tryna do a zillion updates, too. Get on a wire
