Looking for a free VPN, but finding one that’s actually reliable has been a challenge. Most of the ones I’ve tried either slow my connection to a crawl or have issues staying connected.
I’ve tried using a few free VPNs to stream geo-locked content like Netflix shows from other regions, but its been a frustrating experience. Free options tend to buffer endlessly or struggle to bypass restrictions altogether. On top of that, I occasionally download files through torrents, so I need something that’s not just secure but also fast enough to handle both tasks.
I’ve heard names like ProtonVPN, Windscribe, Hotspot Shield and TunnelBear, but I’m unsure if they can handle everything I need. Are there any free VPNs that actually deliver solid performance for streaming and torrenting? What are your recommendations or even warnings about ones to avoid.

Avoid free ones. If something is free you’re the product.
Without meaning to be rude if someone can’t afford to few dollars a month for a secure VPN then they have bigger issues.
I’ve used ProtonVPN for a while now, and it’s not perfect, but it’s good for free. It’s decent speed-wise for streaming, though it can be a bit slow with torrents.
If you’re serious about torrenting, I’d go with Windscribe. Their free plan gives you 10GB per month, and I’ve found it pretty reliable.
TunnelBear is cute and all, but I wouldn’t trust it with torrents. The free plan is limited to 500MB, and that’s barely enough for a good binge-watching session, let alone anything else.
Yeah, Windscribe has been a go-to for me as well. However if you’re going to stream and torrent on the free plan.
Tried a bunch of free VPNs and most of them suck. Hotspot Shield’s free plan is pretty bad for streaming, constant buffering.
I think you’re better off paying for something like ExpressVPN or Nord if you’re serious about both streaming and torrents.
I’ve been using ProtonVPN for months now. It’s fast enough for streaming, but I don’t do much torrenting.
For a truly free and solid option, you could try AtlasVPN.
I feel like free VPNs are a gamble at best. Some work for a while, then suddenly the connection drops, or they start throttling speeds. Anyone else get that feeling?
Windscribe has been the best for me, honestly. I’ve tried ProtonVPN, but Windscribe feels more stable. The 10GB is enough for casual streaming, and I’ve never had it cut out mid-show
Just gonna throw this out there, if you’re willing to take a little risk with a free VPN, HolaVPN actually works decently well for streaming, but… it does some sketchy stuff with your data
I’ve had no problems with Hotspot Shield’s free plan. It’s not perfect, but I’ve used it for streaming a few times without much issue
I know some people recommend using a free VPN just for browsing, but don’t expect to get much out of it when it comes to streaming or torrents
Is anyone here using any for privacy while torrenting? I want to make sure I’m protected, but I don’t want to pay a premium if I don’t have to
Another option to try out is Opera VPN. It’s built right into the browser, so no extra apps required. Free and decent for streaming, though not perfect
Honestly, after trying a few free VPNs, I ended up paying for NordVPN. I tried their free trial and loved it
What’s the deal with VPNs and data caps? Every free one I’ve tried has a limit, and it always feels like a tease
I’ve had the best experience with Windscribe. The free version is great, and you get 10GB each month, which isn’t bad at all
