Can employer detect I am using VPN to pretend to be located in the US?

I must use VOIP actually.

What did you use for this? I am a psychotherapist and don’t earn enough to live in the USA which is where I live now, as a us citizen. I want to move back to my home country and work as a therapist because it would be more affordable but I am apparently supposed to be in the USA while doing therapy sessions on line. I would have to log into their proprietary platform first. I have express VPN now but I’m not using it for work, just got it to check it out

Well except the whole part about you not having proof of residence in the states

He can argue anything he wants if he’s up for all the hassle and not worried if he loses his job. If he hasn’t been using a vpn up until the time he left then he will have to explain why he’s doing it now. It’s really up to the company and how they run their IT department and how strict their policies are. Maybe it’s a government contract security clearance thing that requires it. Maybe they don’t want him using a third party vpn to log into their system. I really don’t know and it’s definitely not a sure bet to not get caught.

Yep. Just be careful on what ports you open up in your router. it should only be for the VPN.

Well yeah but like my parents and close family do not live here.

You only travel for the biomes?

It was Jazz networks when we tested it, its sold and this is the new one

I mean, I guess that is a completely separate issue rather than directly connected to the vpn question.

The OP is at least implying that they live in the US, and are just visiting the foreign country, so they don’t have to fake their proof of residence.

Yes why else would I travel??

Interesting. I didn’t know this. Thanks for info.

Thank you! I now have express VPN. Looks like I can choose the country I want to be in. but still worried and I’ll dig in deeper, especially that I’ll have to be using employer app

Yes but if you are doing this you can’t afford to pop up on the radar. They could and probably will investigate further is all I’m saying

I travel to meet different people, to immerse myself in other cultures, to try different food, to party in different ways, to relax in different ways.

The biomes might affect local culture and behaviour, and they’ll make great photos too, but it’s mostly the different cultures and ways of doing things I enjoy and travel for.

For sure, but it’s possible, I’d imagine a lesser interested team may overlook it. But it would depend on the diligence and knowledge of the team hiring.

Yeah I was halfway joking. I agree those are good reasons. I would like to work outside the country for a part of the year too, but I can’t either.

Yeah, the OP shouldn’t travel right now. I’ve been marooned on a Greek island since this whole thing started a year ago. Not complaining.
