Can I disable my VPN after starting a download?

So this is my first time doing a Torrent and want to know if it is safe to disable my vpn after starting a download. I have the file downloading with a download manager atm. So is it safe for me to disable it or do I need to wait for the file to finish downloading for me to disable it?

You must keep your VPN ON during any torrenting. ANY AND ALL

Your VPN should be the first thing on before you start torrenting, and the last thing you turn off after you have already quit torrenting. It is the only way to remain safe.

A VPN is the only thing preventing prying eyes from seeing what your true origin is. Its your true origin that allows tracking back to your ISP, which then tracks to your account.

Sure, then the download will continue directly on your own connection. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a VPN, but you can.

Did you bind your torrent client to the vpn?

Do I disable the vpn when its seeding or do I wait for that as well

So its just not safe then. I hate how the file is like 80GB downloading at 5mbps speedsđź’€

If you need to protect yourself because of what you are torrenting, then your VPN needs to always be on while the torrent client is running.

The status of a torrent (seeding, download, paused) is irrelevant. The torrent client is constantly sharing information. The VPN protects you from exposing you/your ISP.

Your VPN needs to be running at all times while your torrent client is running. Ideally you should be using a torrent client that is bound to your VPN interface (so that the torrent client cant route data unless its going through an established VPN connection). This helps protect you from mistakes, such as turning your VPN off intentionally or it disconnect accidentally.

I have to ask: Why are you seeming concerned with turning turning it off?

Not necessarily even a VPN issue, way too many variables in play.

OP is concerned about download speed.
