I could never get Netflix to work through a VPN they have a pop up that asks you to turn off the VPN before you can view Netflix…it’s the main reason I got a VPN subscription which I won’t be renewing in 60 days…
You can’t install the VPN on the TV because recent Samsung TVs run Tizen OS and VPNs aren’t supported.
So you can either install the VPN on your router or have something like a MiBox to run the VPN. Casting from an other device also works.
Works for me with Nord - have it set up on router, VPN connection can also be shared from PC. You can check this post on how to set it up on a router. Oh, and in the past, I also used just an HDMI cable from my PC that’s connected to VPN, much less hassle this way.
I thought Netflix won’t let us change countries with VPN’s anymore
If you have an “older” smart tv, it’s better to use an Android box connected to an HMDI port on your TV.
Modern Android boxes have better hardware and internal or external storage.
I use Torguard for VPN.
-
Go to the website from Torguard and create an account.
-
You can pay with fiat or Bitcoin.
-
Open the Google play store on your tv or box.
-
Install Torguard VPN
-
Open Torguard VPN
-
give your account details.
-
From the list, select the country where you need an IP address.
-
For the USA, you can select from 11 cities.
-
Click on connect and you have a US IP address.
FYI: many companies try to find out if you use a VPN and still will block access.
Ask ExpressVPN. They have great customer service and lots of information on how to install a vpn on various devices and connections.
Easiest thing to do is identify a series/movie you want to watch and download it on the pirate bay. Streaming is great but now that every man and his dog has skin in the streaming game it’s difficult and expensive to keep up.
Errr why would netflix block any vpn as long as you Pay? I understand that nf Asia is crap but so what as long as i register somewhere else and pay for the subscription be it nf Asia or Timboktoo. What is the issue?
Casting from PC or Mac to TV I would not recommend if you want to watch 4k. I think Mac doesn’t even do it and on the PC it is a pain in the ass. And that is not even the casting but just getting the 4k to work on your machine itself.
Best option is get a service like NordVPN. Setup your PC as router with VPN and then connect your PC to it. Or you can even put on public hotspot on your mobile phone with NordVPN app running and you can connect your TV to this.
Possible you can login to your router and setup VPN. If the router doesn’t support it buy one that has VPN support and use that one connected to your providers router.
All quite technical…
I use Express VPN. Works so far with Netflix and HBO max. I’ve heard good things about cheaper ones like private internet access or surfshark, but I haven’t used them myself
Ok you convinced me I want to try it now, The only question is NordVPN or ExpressVPN?
You do not need a VPN for Netflix here. I have found I did for Hulu but not Netflix.
When trying to cast Netflix from my phone an error message comes up from Netflix saying that you can only watch it on the TV, using the TV Netflix app.
You need a better VPN then.
Netflix still works with vpn for me at least on my Amazon stick
I run Netflix US using a mini pc and Surfshark VPN to my TV HDMI with no issues.
Amazon Prime is another issue, can not get non-international version despite VPN
Issue isn’t really with Netflix, it is with the license Netflix has with the original content provider. That provider may have an exclusive deal with some other service in other countries. So Netflix allowing it to be shown on their service in another world market is a violation of the terms of service Netflix has with the original content provider.
