CloudFlare announces Warp: a new free VPN service for iOS - 9to5Mac

With a VPN remember: if you aren’t paying for it then your personal data is.

So how’s this going to compare to ProtonVPN? I’ve seen people say that Proton is trustworthy despite being free because their free tier is supported by the paid tier and other paid products they have.

Is this similar?

Seems like a nice service and their DNS service is alright however for a VPN, jurisdiction is absolutely crucial. CloudFare is under US jurisdiction so from privacy point of view it’s far from ideal of course.

Serious question - what do average people use VPN’s for

Never use a free VPN. If you’re using a VPN for privacy, a free one will never cut it. You can get like 2 years of VPN service for $60 and it’s completely worth it.
