Do I need a VPN to work as software developer from Russia and which one?

Russian terrorists, stay home.

Also if employer is strict about it, you better check that vpn disconnect wont suddenly leak your location and block all connections instead. OpenVPN official client has that option. I’m not sure about wireguard rn.

Wireguard is easily blocked now tho

I guess for a developer it is a very easy task.

Correct me if I am wrong, I think “Amnezia Self-hosted” VPN is using this approach, installing the software on a VPS.

From my point of view, I can tell that my private OpenVPN server (tcp port 443) still is accessible OK form Russia, even though I heard reports that RKN blocks all OpenVPN connections.

You can easily set up amneziawg too.

You can use even a basic wireguard without amnezia if you have a dedicated vps inside of Russia (majority of hostings have a direct internet access so nothing really is blocked for them) because they don’t care about traffic inside of the country.

Yes Amnezia/AmneziaWG has a lot of info on the site about it and I completely agree with their approach. It’s both faster, cheaper and more convenient. You need to set up it once and you can use it till the end of times.

I’ve heard about them hunting down OpenVPN servers too. AmneziaWG may seem like an overkill right now but who knows what will they do next.

wireguard protocol banned now at most operators if i recall correctly

I have two wireguard instances on two different vps servers hosted in Russia and they work great. Never had any problems with them
