Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’ve tried looking it up on my own but this is all out of my league. I’m just trying to change my location so I can watch out of market football games. I have YouTube tv and would like vpn to change my location on my MacBook, Will mullvad work for this?
YouTubeTV makes an effort to detect VPN usage and will disable viewing if it detects VPN.
Mullvad is often recognized as a VPN by these services, so I would guess not. It’s cheap to test.
Mullvad is a fantastic VPN service but it doesn’t support streaming. Next best VPN for streaming would be Windscribe in my Opinion
Depends. I used it to watch the Olympics via BBC iPlayer. The BBC saw some servers I connected to as a VPN, some it did not. It’s €5 to test out. Use incognito mode and try every server in every city that might work for you. Newer servers may not yet be picked up as VPN.
Damn okay, I really apprentice this answer
I’ll look into that one. Thank you
Protonvpn is a better option. They say they support streaming
I’m sure Proton is good also, I haven’t used them but I have used Windscribe without issue in the past
I don’t think windscribe has had security audits and they’re based in Canada. The mobile apps aren’t open sourced either. Those things might not matter to you but it also doesn’t help that they have a reputation for having their servers seized by authorities and admitted that they failed to encrypt any of the information.

Trusting any VPN service is still putting faith that they’re doing the right thing, some have better track records than others.
Also depends what your threat model is too.
If a government entity really wants you they will get you no matter what VPN you use.
