I am a subscriber to Express VPN and had been using it without any problems or conflicts with Google Fi on my Pixel 4a. I recently upgrade to the inferior Pixel 6a and have noticed that when switching from Wi-Fi to cellular (I have mostly noticed this issue with LTE, 5G in particular), the cellphone service is not working. It’ll say connected via LTE in the top status bar but no traffic will go through.
The only correction is to turn off the VPN connection. Is this the expected behavior and if so, why did it not occur on the Pixel 4a?
If you didn’t get this fixed, you need to change the VPN protocol settings in ExpressVPN to something other than Automatic. Use the speedtest app or website to test which protocol is faster for you. That worked for me.
I am just about to do a post about Google acquiring some AWS IP space. They turned it on around 4:30 PDT and I could not connect to my self hosted email and webserver that blocks AWS. I had to alter my firewall. On the outside chance it may be that expressVPN blocks AWS.
Nah not really. The chance of someone doing a mitm attack on you using your cellular network is almost zero. It’s public networks that are concerning. But even then, that’s what ssl encryption is for.
Funny thing is I am on a Google IP even though I don’t have the Google Fi VPN turned on. I doubled checked. No VPN in use. Yeah I know this doesn’t make sense. I have no explanation.
I used bgp.he.net to verify the owner of the IP space I was using.
It is never a good idea to post your IP but here is my ASN
