Before you read, I need to make this clear: I swear to fucking God that this is THE official Avira antivirus and not some shitty knockoff/virus.
When I needed an antivirus for my computer, Avira came to mind. All of you guys recommended it to me and it seemed to work pretty well…
Until it happened. What was once just Avira devolved into Avira safe shopping, Avira extension, Avira phantom VPN, and the list goes on. At one point it took up 2 FUCKING GIGABYTES of my computer’s memory (about 25%!). Every time I typed, Avira had to micromanage it to make sure there was no “suspicious scripts” on it, plus my search engine kept getting Avira ads as well.
It could get any worse, right? WRONG. After getting internet speed issues nonstop, I was fucking sick of this shit invading my computer, so I deleted it straight from it. As revenge it decided that my if it couldn’t stay, Windows 10 couldn’t either. It was secretly hiding in my computer, waiting for the right time to fuck me over. And it did.
Fast forward to me restarting my computer about 3 days later to make sure that a new update had been installed. After coming back to see if any progress had been made, I was slammed with the BSOD. Not a big deal, right? I went into the advanced options to see what was wrong. Lo and behold, the fucking WINDOWS INSTALLER PROGRAM has been deleted! After checking in the console it was discovered that around the same time Avira magically popped up from the voids of hell to delete itself once more… Turns out when you delete a program that micromanages the windows installer, it gets deleted too. I was furious, and immediately went to my nearest Best Buy to get this computer fixed.
According to Best Buy, the only way I could fix the problem was to reinstall Windows completely, literally wiping ALL of my files and programs from my computer. After waiting it out for about 2 hours, Windows finally started working and I proceeded to reinstall EVERYTHING that was on my computer. Thankfully, my super important files were on Google Drive and safe, but I’m still pissed as fuck at Avira for suicide bombing my computer.
While reinstalling my programs I happened to check my email and got a message from Avira asking me to rate their service. Avira, you are so fucking gonna get a review. A review you’ll never, ever forget.
TL;DR: Installed Avira, Avira kept installing more shit and slowed down my computer, deleted it, and it deleted the Windows Installer in retaliation, making me have to wipe everything from my computer to fix the problem.
