Streaming services like Netflix and co. are so frekin expensive in Switzerland that i am thinking about getting a VPN at a discount. (NordVPN currently is somewhere about 5.- per month) and then "switching from Switzerland to Pakistan, Turkey or similar to save like 30.- total per month.
Has anyone tried that yet?
Possible Cons i think could be:
titles in library are “shit”. like no german language, no high budget series etc.
loosing my viewing history. Though this one is a rather small con
Maybe someone tried it and can invalidate my concerns?
The problem is the payment. I am using a Brazilian account for Netflix and Spotify, it works perfectly fine in Switzerland or around the world (no VPN needed). But I made my first registery in Brazil and I am in Brazil at least once a year. When I’m there, I am paying from there or buy local gift cards for a year’s worth. They won’t accept my Swiss credit card if paying from Switzerland.
I have been doing this for over a year for YouTube Premium and no issues so far.
Preispirat occasionally do guides, they have a discord you might be able to use to get more updated information (I don’t use discord so not sure). Either way have a look on there about what the best approach is, I quickly found the below link, but like I said it might not be the most up-to-date information
Years ago I wanted to watch a movie which was available on amazon prime US but not in Switzerland. It was a paid movie. I used the vpn to pretend I’m in the US, but then I could not complete the payment for the movie, because somehow they identified my credit card is not from the US.
So, I ended up finding another way to watch this movie for free.
I’ve had ExpressVPN for years and never once has switching countries ever affected the price.
I’ve looked up countless articles and nothing works for me.
The funniest part is when I have my vpn during payment, it almost never succeeds and I need to turn off my vpn just to compete the payment, which defeats a huge purpose.
I’m starting to think those claims are just paid-for BS blogs by vpn companies to drum up sales
Yep, I’ve been using it for YouTube premium, Spotify, Steam, and all other subscription services/online goods for idk how long. Spotify and Steam require regional bank card so I use oldubil (no verification, fully online) for turkey region, YouTube doesn’t care as long as it’s Mastercard for some reason, ZKB Visa doesn’t work
I don’t know if it was pure coincidence, but my Nordvpn was great until the cancellation period ended. Then it slowly got worse over the rest of the year, until i had it switched off more than not.
I have got Proton now and although not perfect, the throughput is soo much better! Not cheap though.
I’ve been using a VPN for a couple of years on Hulu and HBO Max. NordVPN works great, but to sign up you need a US creditcard. You can use giftcards and vouchers (there’s special websites that sell those), but for the initial set up you’ll need a US-American card. I have never tried it for Netflix, just logging in with a VPN but with my Swiss account (NordVPN works on an off for Netflix), but I’d assume it’s the same thing. I can’t imagine though that it’s THAT MUCH CHEAPER that it’s worth going through all that hassle?
