I have a Linksys Express VPN router but since the express vpn router doesn’t support port ranges for port forwarding. I want to look at some other router that would support port forwarding port ranges and express vpn. I understand that port forwarding is not covered with the vpn which is fine using for a gaming device. Any suggestions?
I would recommend looking for a router that meets the following criteria:
-
Supports OpenVPN: Ensure the router is compatible with ExpressVPN through OpenVPN configuration, as many standard routers don’t natively support VPNs.
-
Port Forwarding Flexibility: Look for routers that allow manual port forwarding ranges. This is essential for gaming or applications that need specific ports open.
Recommended Routers:
ASUS RT-AX3000 / AX58U: Supports OpenVPN, offers flexible port forwarding options, and provides high-speed Wi-Fi 6 capabilities.
Netgear Nighthawk R7000: A popular option for VPN setups, supports port forwarding, and has a proven track record with OpenVPN.
Linksys WRT3200ACM: A highly customizable router that works well with ExpressVPN, supports port forwarding, and is known for its reliability.
You might want to check if the router firmware (like DD-WRT or Tomato) can also be flashed, as these third-party firmware options provide extensive control over port forwarding and VPN configurations.
ExpressVPN has stopped developing ExpressVPN Firmware for 3rd party Routers. The Aircove Router is the only currently supported platform for ExpressVPN on Routers. I was using it on a Linksys Router. I now use the Aircove that is offered by ExpressVPN.
I assume this Aircover Router doesn’t allow port ranges for port forwarding.
Confirmed it doesn’t do port ranges.
