Hi guys, I’d like to use a VPN but only with a single browser, instead of using it system-wide. Is this doable? The browser is Chrome, btw.
VPN? No. Proxy? Yes.
What are you trying to accomplish? What is your need for vpn/proxy?
Astrill VPN has a application filter that will allow you to include or exclude specific apps.
Yes, it is possible with a VPN, but if the VPN has the feature of Split Tunneling. I use purevpn and they offer this feature. it basically allows you to select apps/browsers which you want to route through a VPN, rest of the apps and data goes through your internet. I personally use this one, but you can also go for a VPN that offer browser extensions like Tunnelbear and that should also do the trick for you.
Why not just also surf using the vpn. It won’t hurt. Imo it may be more suspicious if you just use it for one site
Access a specific website that is blocked in my country. I have a VPN subscription, and I would like to only access that specific website using the VPN, while using the “regular” connection for everything else.
I actually explored this further and you were right. A simple proxy from a location where that website works did the trick, at least so far. Guess that, once that proxy goes down, I’ll have to find another one.
Thanks!
Basically because I get Google in the language of the VPN server, some sites I visit do not work in the country of the VPN server, and so on.
I would suggest checking with your VPN provider to see if they support any sort of proxy or port forwarding access. Chrome has an extension called TunnelSwitch that lets you easily enable/disable a proxy connection while limiting it to only Chrome.
I use this same setup to route my Chrome traffic through my home computer and avoid the browsing restrictions at work, although instead of a VPN subscription i’m just using an SSH tunnel which comes with port forwarding support built in.
Is that 100% guaranteed?
I was actually referring to that privacy part. For example, I tested Hola and it works perfectly, but I know that Hola’s architecture makes it a no-go for privacy reasons. What about the services you mentioned?
Thank you very much!
