I purchased 2 year account with Nord about a year ago. Mainly because ExpressVPN stopped working reliably with my Netflix account. I had a few small issues with Express like google wanting to verify if I was a human. But they got that cleared up. But I never had connection issues and the speeds were consistent with all of the different servers that I used.
I live in a Middle Eastern country that borders the Arabian Gulf. One that is known to be heavily censored. At first, Nord worked extremely well…Until it didn’t. Starting around Dec. 2023, I started to have random connection issues on my Microsoft laptop. This has blown up into a comple clusterfuck with all of my devices (2 iOS devices, 1 PC and 1 Android).
I can rarely if ever connect my PC these days. Customer service is a joke and their response time is pathetic. And if Ical them out about their late resopnse, their reply is to say “sorry you didn’t receive our last message”. That’s because you never sent it assholes!
Today, I was listening to Pandora on my iPad when the music just quit. Took a look at the iPad and found that not only was NordVPN suddenly disconnected, but I had also been logged out. Couldn’t log back in because this country doesn’t allow connections to VPN services. I thought that I had a backup VPN on my iPad, but alas, I don’t.
So now I’m screwed until I can go to Dubai to resolve this issue and get this NordVPN parasite off of all of my devices and start fresh with a new service. I still have a year left. Hopefully they will refund my remaining subscription.
Nord just sucks.
There are also ongoing issues connecting from within other restrictive countries, like China. You have the full power of the State trying to prevent the connection, and a NordVPN server waiting for you to connect.
As restrictions are updated and become more sophisticated I’d have to assume that “unapproved” VPN connections could eventually become impossible, such as in a high-security office setting.
In cases where someone could lose access to the service at any time, it may make more sense to buy the service month to month. If you bought a 2-year plan at a typical discount and already used it for a year, you’ve already saved money over what you’d have paid at the monthly rate.
Perhaps Nord could make it more clear before purchase that service in these types of locations cannot be guaranteed, for obvious reasons.

Yeah my Nord also stopped working on laptop. Phone works fine. This is because I go to Bahrain every weekend and I logged into phone from there and now it works.
Found a workaround for laptop. Once your Nord is working on phone, connect phone via pda net +app, USB tether option (after enabling vpn on phone) and run Nord on laptop. Now it will login and connect options will come up whereas previously it wouldn’t. Disconnect phone and connect normally on laptop. Basically what is happening is that your computer is using an already working vpn connection on your phone and when you turn on Nord on the PC, it is able to login and then you can connect to the servers normally. The whole pda net route is to be able to access vpn on phone… If you hotspot the phone, it doesn’t hotspot with vpn.
Have to do this everytime you turn on your laptop.
I’m using NordVPN since I can’t get Paramount+ to work on ExpressVPN. Glad I bought 3 year package with Rakuten with 100% cashback offer. So 3 years of Nord is basically free and so far I’m liking it.
VPNs are blocked by your Government and ISP, what can Nord do really?
Perhaps TOR/Lokinet would be a better option?
My sister owns Nord, but she can’t log in without using another vpn or proxy. So I recommended for her Proton to unlock Nord.
I’ve heard manny complains about Nord. I’m using Mullvad and am really really happy with it. It works on every device, is fast and login is no problem, even from countries that would like to stop you from using VPNs.
I can get the laptop to work eventually. It’s just a chore. Have to try several times. It’s my iPad that got logged out. I’m gonna try going to a friends place. He has a router with vpn embedded
