In addition to the title question, I do some activities on VPN and some off VPN, since Chrome records history my concern is if everytime I connect to the internet without VPN, will Google download my history saved in Chrome?
If this happens, is there another browser that is better for VPNs? Thanks.
According to a reddit post by a Chrome dev, Chrome is 95% Chromium with proprietary stuff on top for flash, silverlight etc. I wouldn’t take their word for it 100%, but you should be quite ok. If you’re unsure, go with Firefox or Chromium. Personally I’d still use Firefox behind NoScript and check whatever IPLeak sites there are.
A VPN creates a secure tunnel between point A and point B.
It does not eliminate traffic, simply secure it.
SO if Chrome tells google “here’s whatever the user was looking at,” then that information simple gets sent securely from point A to point B, then onto google’s server.
You want a browser that does not track any of your habits. I’d suggest TAILS at that point. Look into using FireFox and Chromium.
As I understand it, if you use google’s dns (or your ISPs DNS) servers, then the sites you visit are being tracked. You’d have to use your VPN service’s DNS servers to eliminate that.
