I need a shortcut that at first checks if vpn tailscale is enable. If not then enables it and open a file from smb server. After I close the file I want to automatically disable the vpn.
I have a lot of problems at if. I can’t select specific conditions but only a few ones. Also I can’t find a way to check if an app is opened.
I have an automation that will turn VPN on/off when certain apps are open or closed. The Files App is one of the options you can select.
I first set up a shortcut to turn VPN on. One for Off, then set up automations based on specific apps that will run the needed shortcuts (turning vpn off/on as needed).
I use protonvpn. I always have it on (I don’t have secure WiFi at work), save for the 3 apps it needs to be off.
I made 2 shortcuts: 1 “turn vpn off”
2 “turn vpn on”
Then I used the auto build automation that will run vpn off when 3 apps open. And a second one for vpn on when 3 apps closed.
I’ve been battling this same automation and I gave up! What I want is my vpn to turn off (if it’s on, I have trusted WiFi at work) when I open a certain app or apps, then turn back on when they’re closed. The problem I run into is my direct connect sometimes doesn’t toggle or something. Also if I switch from that app to another one using the slider it runs the automation each time which is annoying. At this point it’s easier to just pause it manually each time but man it’s annoying. Share your secret? I use NordVPN
