if i use tor over vpn, can my isp know im using tor?
Your ISP can see you using a VPN but will not see Tor or your traffic, But it is also redundant to use Tor and a VPN. Just use Tor, If the ISP blocks it enable the Snowflake/bridges feature
>if i use tor over vpn, can my isp know im using tor?
No.
Yes but if the ISP looks at packet timing and sizes then they may infer that you are using Tor, and thats a maybe, so most likely no they wont be able to tell. However, unless Tor is blocked or not allowed where you are, you shouldnt try to hide it from your ISP. The more people who use Tor, the more it looks normal, and people who are of intrest stand out less, therefore increasing the security of the network as a whole.
Edit: Grammar
What is tor over vpn
No, you use a tor bridge, and the vpn is for if tor gets deanonymous, your IP address won’t be known and behind the VPN ip instead
Who cares if they know? Last I checked using tor wasn’t illegal.
No.
VPN is just an electroinc tunnel. They’ll know you’re using one. But not the traffic going through it.
This. Using a (free) bridge will also prevent your ISP from seeing that you use Tor, and also prevents any VPN company from knowing.
If Tor is legal where you live, you actually help everyone by using it openly, without a bridge or VPN. Make Tor usage as normal and common as possible!
If vpn provider doesn’t log then will it be safe?
Bridges are just as insecure as VPN
But it is also redundant to use Tor and a VPN. Just use Tor
I use both. The VPN is there to protect the non-Tor-Browser traffic my system does. The VPN doesn’t help or hurt Tor.
Thank you for your response. I would like to know what is the blocking principle of ISPs on bridges, and how they manage to block all non-public bridges? In my region, I can only connect to the Tor network directly and cannot use any type of bridge. And why my government doesn’t ban us from using tor direcly?
Run VPN, then later launch Tor Browser.
You also add to the number of anonymous users currently online.
An interesting concept. With an unlikely practical application. But I don’t know what bro uses it for. Just here to stir up sh!+ apparently
Don’t bet on there being no logs.
The bridge is solely to use a different point to enter Tor, It isn’t meant for protection. But it is certainly better to use Tors bridges than a VPN
by VPN, you mean commercial VPN, i guess…
