Is AdGuard Pro a better VPN choice?

I have AdGuard Pro (4.0.2) paid a one off fee years ago, and a PIA subscription which is up for renewal this month. I’ve had a lot of connectivity issues with PIA, so can I cancel PIA and enjoy the same level of privacy with Adguard VPN. Going on price alone it looks like a no brainer - Or are they not comparable in this situation?

AdGuard Pro → it’s not a VPN. It’s an adblocker. It uses the Fake Local VPN method to block ads in your device system wide. It’s not connecting to any Data Centre or such except when you are using a third party DNS. Your ISP can still see what are you doing. Also, it only supports Encrypted DNS.

PIA is a full featured VPN where your data is routed to a data centre in an encrypted format that your ISP can’t see or even the government. Privacy wise, in theory, this is more secure, and your more “anonymous” than using an Encrypted DNS.

They are two totally different app and purpose.
I’ll let you google the difference of a VPN and an encrypted dns.

Thank you. I’ve looked up the difference and closer to understanding now.
Do you know of any service that covers both features under one app/subscription?

You do realise Adguard has it’s own VPN service right?

adGuard has their own VPN, but currently in beta and is not officially release. It’s available for download as a proxy extension in chrom and firefox. For ios, you need to have a TestFlight invite. This is if you want to try their own VPN ( note that AdGuard adblocker currently don’t work with their ios VPN )

If you want to try others. VPNUnlimited has their own privacy Firewall DNS. Same as PIA with PIA MACE and NordVPN with their cybersec.

Or you can buy another VPN and have AdGuard Adblocker work together with the VPN via Split Tunnel Mode. VPN that works with AdGuard Adblocker for ios are: F-Secure Freedome, VPNUnlimited, Proton VPN, etc.

Yes. But he is talking about the AdGuard PRO 4.0.2 that he purchased once off.

AdGuard VPN (the proper VPN) is not even publicly release AND NOT once off. (Beta but paid)

VPNUnlimited has their own privacy Firewall DNS

VPNUnlimited does not offer the DNS firewall if you signed up with StackSocial
