So the new school I’m at has so much stuff blocked, even spotify. That why I was happy when I realised I could use my very expensive vpn to get past it. It was going great for a while, but now I can’t connect, and I change to different servers too and it still won’t work. So to get by I downloaded a free vpn but I can’t change the location, so when I go to watch Disney I can’t watch any of the shows I was already viewing because they’re not available on American Disney. The whole thing is just really annoying. Everyone says ExpressVPN is supposedly the most reliable and stealthy and can get past anything. But it won’t work at my public school? It reconnects perfectly fine when I get home too. So I decided to contact support, I went through al these steps they gave me, and got the newer version of the ExpressVPN app but it didn’t fix anything. Then k get an email from the lady I spoke to simply saying that my school may have blocked me from being able to use vpn. I thought the whole point of vpn was that it’s undetected? And why does the completely free vpn I have work at school. I’m a high school student so it’s really ridiculous that I’ve payed for an expensive vpn for them to just tell me they can’t do anything about me not being able to use it. Does anyone know how can I fix this?
tl;dr: try changing to Lightway-TCP.
ExpressVPN will default to UDP, and the firewall *may* be blocking UDP traffic except for common ports. TCP uses port 443 so if it’s port blocking then this will work
It is possible to block VPNs. But VPNs also have some tricks to get past these blocks.
Now, it totally depends on how hardcore your school’s firewall is or how many workaround options does your VPN offer.
For starters, have you tried switching your protocol to TCP while at school?
