I always see people saying that kaspersky is the best antivirus. And I don’t doubt that, but, is the free version of kaspersky the best FREE option? Or are there others who are better?
I currently have Avast installed, but I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it is horrible.
It’s much better. I used Windows Defender and Malwarebytes before and when I installed Kaspersky Free I found a nasty PuP that was spying on me. The other programs didn’t detect it.
Avast is not horrible but the free version use many scare tactic to fool user into buying their paid version. But protection has always been solid.
Kaspersky Free is brilliant at protection but slows down web browsing speed and also consume more CPU while browsing than almost any other AV products.
So you recommend kaspersky free instead of other ones? In the comparison table (on the website) free was missing lots of features though, and some things seemed important, like, virus removal or things like that.
So… Kaspersky is the best free option? Sorry if I sound stupid, Google Translate changes the meaning of the sentences a little and I didn’t understand you very well hehe.
Whoa, that’s definitely something new.
I haven’t really seen this transfer speed problem, maybe it has happened but I didn’t realize it. Try reporting it, I think they have a site where you can report bugs and problems.
Thanks for your comment, it’s very complete and informative. I didn’t know Kaspersky was a Russian product, but I don’t mind.
I decided to do the jump with Kaspersky free. I definitely don’t regret it. It’s a very complete all in one solution. And while I think Kaspersky doesn’t provide an automatic scan in the free version, I’ve had it block malware from executing which saved my computer. Which I suppose IS available on the free version.
And about windows defender, I don’t know how good or bad it is nowadays. I am aware that it is much better now.
But I have always used 3rd Party software though I might look into Windows Defender in the future if I am searching for another option.
Thank you for being the sane one on the question. Do not understand ask the hate on Avast and some even calling it a virus.
I was in same dilemma as OP. Exact same reason. So I tried Kaspersky. Find it to be using about same resources. Then met with one minor issue. I had problem whitelisting files. Maybe I am just stupid but I figured whitelisting should not be that difficult. I have no problem doing it with avast. Went back to Avast and happy since.
As for Avast free, I disable the network firewall because that thing keep popping up. Stick with Windows firewall and you’re good.
As for virus detection, I wouldn’t know as AV is just my last line of defense. I do practice some caution when dealing with sus files or services. Most useful of Avast is blacklisting website they think is dangerous.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not an Avast fanboy. Just happen I have been using it for many years. It has been working and not resource hogging. I would try bitdefender someday.
The most important thing here is the detection, one of the reasons we don’t use Defender is for its poor detection. Once you detect a virus, there are many ways it can be removed from other sources on the net.
No worries. PuP = potentially unwanted aplication. Yes, Kaspersky has the least false positives, among the best detection and protection and it’s very light on your system. Its user interface is also very easy to use and understand.
Edit: I spent $10 on eBay and got myself Kasperksy Plus for 2 years and 3 devices. Best deal ever.
Great. The main reason I don’t use Kaspersky is the web browsing slowdown issue. If you’re okay with that then Kaspersky is the better choice over Avast.
