I read that it gives our info to Russia or smthn pls clarify
For users outside Russia, Kaspersky operates out of the UK, and Switzerland, where their servers are also based.
It’s a purely personal decision whether to use Kaspersky software, but there is no evidence at all that Kaspersky ever has or ever would pass user data to Russian authorities.
The commercial risk alone, for Kaspersky Global, would be immeasurable.
i dont give a fuck if they will sell my info, i just want a good antivirus. Is this kaspersky good?
If you are not a government employee likely fine… FBI has some concern Putin could lean on company for spyware purposes, but no proof that has happened.
With mixed feelings, I can see valid concerns from both sides. Proctor & Gamble has plants in Russia and China. This is a global market and given the track record of Kaspersky over the years, including Eugene’s many contributions to the security industry, my sense is to use his product and if there is a valid reason for alarm, then cease running it. Fortunately, we have a wide range of available options out there.
Look at AVG/AVAST
Western AV companies that are selling your data to companies to help with Free AV software.
All companies and apps are doing it.
Windows10,Windows 11, TicToc, Google, Microsoft, AVG/AVAST, list can go on.
Companies doing stuff they shouldnt or without our permission.
Based on their track record, as far as we know, they can be trusted. There has never been any type of privacy violation that I can recall, and they’ve been consistently one of the top security product companies out there for as long back as I can remember. People are worried about the fact that it’s a Russian company, which is escalated greatly by the current state of the world. It’s fearmongering at best when people reply with “yea, but what if…” every time this gets brought up.
I used Kaspersky for 15 years without issues but I stopped using it 5 years ago (financial reasons). Since then I don’t know what it’s like. I loved Kaspersky.
As an actual user for multiple years.
Kaspersky used to be awesome but the past couple years has been garbage.
I canceled years ago has charged me since after successfully bricking one of my previous hard drives and putting in a request for canceling years ago.
Personally I wouldn’t give them your card information and if an “oopsie” happens good luck figuring it. I wouldn’t trust any of these corporations anymore tbh, I think someone buys it out or hires some idiot who changes the whole structure.
Tldr: used to be great, high Risk now
I’m honestly just living my life and enjoying it. I love kasp products, but It is weird that their VPN goes automatically to Ukraine - Kyiev ;D
It depends how high up you are on the social food chain. Certain governments banned the use of it on their computers based on risk.
Checkpoint (a security vendor), removed Kaspersky from their product (https://community.checkpoint.com/t5/Endpoint/Harmony-Endpoint-Kaspersky-free-client-version-available/td-p/143731)
Historically speaking, some security-minded professionals feel that Kaspersky went too far helping out the FSB back in 2017 (https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-kaspersky-russia-20171213-story.html)
I haven’t trusted Kaspersky for over a decade. A person would have to be crazy to use their software. I used to know an accountant that used their software. I thought he was crazy!
can you trust the american ones?
Tried to use it back in 2006-2007…as I installed the AV my computer got into serious problems, stopped working fine, had glitches, videos games crashed and it fucked up my whole hard drive when tried to uninstall this shit. Also I couldn’t find any “uninstall” options in my control panel…so for me, Kaspersky is a VIRUS…not anti virus.
Yes, the concern is that Kaspersky has a lot of employees that were former FSB or government hackers. Overall safe but the concern is they still have connections to the kremlin in some form or another. I used kaspersky and liked it.
Absolutely not. ANY software associated with Russia is a big no-no at the moment. Skip it. You have 100x better ones like Norton. The other lengthy comment below this is false and you should not risk it.
Look… why take a chance? At least, that’s the way I feel about it. Otherwise, Stoney might still be alive.
what’s this website?
isn’t for us?
https://usa.kaspersky.com/
so look i was looking into the accounts that are promoting kaspersky and its weird as if theyre accounts are hacked for instance u/Rebezzzo buddy went from sims 2 and whatever to straight kaspersky promotion ion trust it
Kaspersky has been proven to be cooperating with FSB, leaking user information. It’s owner is also compromised, either by choice or not, having had a KGB affiliated background. Don’t use it, for your safety and for the western world safety.
I’m surprised it hasn’t been banned yet outside of Russia.
Although I could be wrong. I’m 95% sure it’s affiliated with Russian gov. Just like in China, authoritarian regimes have a great ammount of control over businesses, specially with main HQ in their country. This said, Eugene Kaspersky could have also left Russia upon hearing about the war, but didn’t, showing either that he supports Putin’s ideals or that he was somehow coerced into it or simply by money related reasons.
