Is the VPN good with this company considering to get the plus package
Hi, I’m Michael from Malwarebytes and I lead our product team.
What are you looking to do?
Our plus (AV and VPN) is a solid choice for most users and their typical usage. Both are very simple to use and won’t get in the way of your other activities.
The VPN doesn’t work with my malwarebytes. I might not renew my subscription. Very disappointed.
No. If you want a commercial VPN look at ones like ExpressVPN, Nord etc
Hi Michael,
Any word on the difficulties I and a few other Mac VPN users are having for the last week or two staying connected to the VPN?
different quiescent but is getting standard good enough to protect my laptop I’m new to all of this
Let me check on this and get back to you. It’s been a tough bug for us to figure out.
For others seeing this convo: this is limited to our Mac version of the VPN.
You are better off staying away from MWB and getting a better product like BitDefender, ESET etc. MWB is heavy on resources and will constantly alert you to “threats” like cookies when there is nothing wrong. Also, stay away from these full on packages that offer everything and the kitchen sink. You’ll be stuck with them for password managers, firewalls, VPN etc. Best to get the base protection and then find the other products elsewhere from other vendors that actually specialize in it.
Thanks, Michael - appreciate you looking into this. I’m running Malwarebytes on a 2023 MBP M3 Pro, Sonoma 14.7.1
Idk about that I’m consistently disconnected on both my iPhone and windows pc until I switch servers or disconnect Wi-Fi
Hi Michael,
Any word? VPN still unusable. Thanks.
Can you share more details on the resource issues you’re seeing?
We monitor this very closely and for every release we do. At times, resources can increase (and for any AV) during more intense activities like scanning or when the device has an active infection and we’re trying to remediate it.
Also, can you share more species or even logs about your cookies comment?
Again, we’re happy to review logs or other details if you have them and make adjustments if necessary.
Sorry about my delay here. We’re still troubleshooting the Mac VPN issue and can’t replicate it.
To resolve (and potentially temporarily), try one of these and in this order:
- Switch server - simply try another server
- Adjust license state (to refresh VPN)
- Paid to free: open Malwarebytes, click on silhouette in upper right, my subscription, deactivate
- Free back to paid: open Malwarebytes, click on silhouette in upper right, my subscription, activate
- Remove and (re)add VPN profile
- Open Settings app, VPN, (i) next to Malwarebytes, remove configuration
- Open Malwarebytes, try to connect to VPN, follow prompts to allow filtering of network content
u/ExternalWater8968 u/Hangdog_Wolf u/Mission_Beautiful776 We finally have a fix for the Mac VPN issues ready!
To update, open the app → in the menu bar click Malwarebytes → click check for updates
Follow the prompts and then you should be on the latest version which is 5.10
We really appreciate your patience on this as it was very difficult to troubleshoot.
Would be great to hear if this is working for you!
Thanks for getting back to me, Michael - will try the 2nd & 3rd suggestions; switching servers never made a difference for me previously. Cheers.
I did all those things and sadly, it’s still not working for me… any other ideas?
Hi! I had it corrected, and it was working, but Mac did another update on my computer and now it’s not working again.
Thanks, Michael - appreciate the news.
Auto-updated, but it still wasn’t working, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. still not working. Restarted computer. Same. It still behaves as it has been doing for months - VPN shuts down after 4 seconds, restarts for 3, and then shuts down again.
hi Michael - Another user on MAC running into the same problem. I have also upgraded to 5.10 but still running into the same problem. Shoudl I also grab the logs and send it to you?
We think we’ve figured this out and are actively testing a fix. If that goes well, we’re targeting an update this month.
