Is there any reason not to keep VPN turned on all the time?

I have a pixel with the built in VPN still functional. Google warns you about slower internet speeds and faster battery burn, but if those aren’t an issue for you, is there any practical reason to ever need to turn it off?

Some services can detect when you use a VPN and block your ability to use the service. If (insert service here) detects 10k devices connected via one IP, that looks suspicious and (insert service here) will slow, or stop servicing that IP.

So, yes, leaving VPN on ALL the time could cause problems, but it’s fine to leave on. If a service you use starts to slow or become laggy, try turning VPN off.

yeah, fucking cloudflare

My reasons are:

  1. VPN makes internet speed slower ( I use the free plan of windscribe).
  2. Consumes more data especially if you go for highly encrypted VPN protocol, this is important if your data is limited.
  3. I think it consumes more bettery juice ( not sure if this is true) but I notice battery doesn’t last as much as when vpn is turned off.
  4. higher ping while gaming especially if you are redirected to a server far from the nearest server to you .

So, in general I only turn it on when there is a blocked service I can’t access without VPN and I use the free plan since I don’t use it much.

It doesn’t protect you as much as you think it would. Like if you’re logging into your bank on a public wifi network (barring biometric logins which is its own layer of security) someone else with the technical knowledge can still swipe your login and then be able to tell it came from your device based on the IP which still leaves you vulnerable to a device attack that’s based on your Pixels security. However it is still an extra layer of security that makes you less vulnerable than if you didn’t have it

depends on how much of your data you want your vpn provider to sell

So freaking annoying ngl

Google usually doesn’t sell user data…

Yes, this is a feature on VPN by Google. You have to click “Exclude selected apps”

yes keep telling yourself that. i assure they are finding lots of ways to profit from your data
