Isn’t the whole point of using a VPN is to not be monitored? Why does apple insist they have rights to monitor activity?

The message seems to be trying to say “All network activity on this iPhone may be filtered or monitored [by the VPN provider] when using VPN.”

You seem to be using a fake Tor Browser, because it spells Tor “TOR”.

If you’re using iOS, see https://support.torproject.org/tormobile/tormobile-3/

If you’re using macOS, please get the real Tor Browser from https://www.torproject.org/

This means the app will be able to monitor your network activity, not apple. You should read about how Tor, vpns or other types of proxys work.

you’re not reading the message correctly

They are not saying that they will monitor the activity but that a VPN may monitor and filter the activity.

The point of a VPN is not to provide privacy to the user even tough it may be used for such purpose, the point of a VPN for which it was invented in the first place is to securely connect offices of a company which are located in different geographical locations in to a single private network over the internet.

For example employee could connect his company issued phone to his companie’s VPN and the IT staff could monitor his activity to see if he is using his phone for work or using it to access porn during work hours.

It amazes me every time I see the “android is better” crowd come to play security games. Whenever law enforcement seizes a phone, they have a few options.

  1. See if it’s an easy guess/unlock. If not;

  2. If Apple – Hope your OS is up to date, cause then no one is getting in. If you’re about six months behind, they have one call – that Israeli group that deal just with this, really. Otherwise, the next best software/hacking platforms are about two years behind the current iOS security. And generally, if Apple gets any kind of request, they tell them to fuck off. And when they find a method those Israelis are exploiting – it gets plugged fast. Apple even went so far this year, to introduce a bill to Congress to prevent any law enforcement from using information obtained from a locked phone, but readable notification.

  3. If Android – Hope your OS is up to date. But if you’re over six months without an update, someone has posted the way inside your phone. If it’s a year old, there’s 13 year olds on Youtube that have videos showing you exactly how long to hold which button, in order, to open your phone, and his phone, and that guy over there’s phone too. If Law Enforcement is desperate though, they will just call Google. Google breaks pretty easy to them.

Remember, kids. You’re not a hacker just because you opened a terminal to cd into a folder, to start doing ‘code’

It means that the vpn provider can see everything you do when you use it

what they insist on having the right to do is sell you stuff

You clearly don’t understand what that message means

Thats why you use Tor and do not select VPN. Do not use vpn

NSA is monitoring not Apple.

This means that the app, not Apple, will be able to watch what you do on your network. Learn more about how Tor, VPNs, and other proxy types work.

Not Apple, Apple is warning you that when you are on VPN, all your network activities can be monitored and filtered by the VPN provider. And when you are not on VPN same can be done by your ISP too.

It’s been a hot minute since my security certs, but, if I recall correctly, security is just an illusion. There’s a key exchange that happens and it’s pretty easy to grab those keys if you’re monitoring the initial exchange.

Security is an illusion.
