This would be a risk when downloading video/media from anywhere and is not specific to PopcornTime.
As far as I can tell, the torrents PopcornTime shows are selected based on quality and such.

Another thing to note is that you might get “malicious IP blocked” notices every so often depending on your antivirus/anti-malware you have installed. This is not-specific to PopcornTime and is just a nature of how torrents work; Some seeders might be using flagged IP’s for any number of reasons.
