Microsoft confirms recent Windows security update breaks VPNs, no fix yet

I guess its good I’m 3 months out of date. I can’t trust Windows Update very often, since it breaks my custom audio setup every single time.

That’s why we disable windows updates.

Use firewall to stop windows from updating.

I was thinking about this as well.

Damn, I am stuck with Autodesk on Windows.

I REALLY want Proton to be a full windows replacement. Unfortunately right now I can’t even get the VPN to work without manually setting it up with OpenVPN.

I was about to ask the same question, because if yes it would be a disaster for these companies.

I’m using ProtonVPN right now with no issues.

What distro you using?

This!

Furthermore it also has been fixed:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/may-14-2024-kb5037771-os-builds-22621-3593-and-22631-3593-e633ff2f-a021-4abb-bd2e-7f3687f166fe

Same, I am using ProtonVPN right now, on a Win11 v.22631.3447 AND while reading this thread, found out the update that is causing the issue (KB5036893) was installed on my machine back in April and most of the articles notifying the genpop are all dated this month, May. Must’ve lucked out.

Minty Fresh Cinnamon

It most certainly has not, I still have broken vpns unless I revert to previous versions

Looks good to me, but looks like a middle finger to my colleagues.

It still shouldn’t affect consumer VPNS, given only L2TP and IPSEC are affected. None of these protocols are in use at Proton VPN.

My apologies for my unclear reply. I meant that the windows update does not fix all issues. I have indeed not personally experienced any issues with Proton VPN.
