Microsoft’s latest Windows update breaks VPNs, and there’s no fix
If you’re trusting Microsoft Windows to manage your VPN, now you’ve got TWO problems.
Is this what’s been wrong with my internet for the past 2 weeks? I’ve been going crazy. Internet can be really fast on some sites, like loading videos on reddit can be smooth, but other sites won’t even load. Then other times reddit is super slow and the other page suddenly works.
Non-issue if you’re using a GL.iNet travel router with the VPN client on the router itself.
nord vpn seems to connect fine for me
May I suggest something that rhymes with Rinux Bint?
ProtonVNP, no issues so far.
No it doesn’t. Not really, and definitely not for hardware based VPNs.
This is dangerously close to fake news, unlikely to be an issue for any DN because you can still use any standard VPN software other than the windows built in VPN profile which you aren’t using anyways.
edit: changed language to avoid pedantic arguments and to focus on the point that this is a non-issue for DNs.
Breaks VPN How? I have vpn issues currently and my employer of course is blaming me.
Not directly related, but someone reminds me of this software that can create a VPN server in one computer and then route everything through it? iirc it was free pr open source, and the idea was to use set it up at home and then route the traffic through it so an employer that checks the IP of a remote worker wouldn’t notice I’m not in the country they expect me to
Great. Yet another reason on the mile-long list of reasons to avoid any Microsoft products.
Is this what was messing up my internet? I do have a vpn installed, wasn’t actively using it in this case, but my main problem was my pc constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to the internet after the update. My steam deck and other devices were working fine, so I thought it was either a hardware or software issue. Just, couldn’t find anyone else talking about it, tried fix after fix for almost a week at this point? Even started looking into other wifi cards, but the ethernet’s screwed too! I thought I was just going nuts, or maybe it was my wifi driver so I rolled that back. This is the closest thing I’ve seen resembling my issue, so here’s to hoping the update they just released will actually fix this garbage.
Interesting now to see the similarities between digital nomad operational security and dark web operational security these days.
2 words. Packet leaking.
this is the most import investment i’ve made in the last few years
This is the way… Plus, their customer support service is fucking great. Had some issues connecting to an OpenVPN server on EC2 and they were amazeballs.
Interesting, now that I’m looking at their site may I ask which one would you recommend?
That’s the way to do it. That and avoid windows if at all possible.
stopped working for me. says connected, but nothing loads
you can still use any standard VPN software other than the windows built in VPN profile which you aren’t using anyways.
My assumption was that this only impacted the built-in Windows VPN management.
