Mobile internet works only with VPN on, wifi is working fine

Hello people, I’m using Oneplus 7T, android 12.

Lately I’ve noticed half of my apps dont work on mobile internet, but as soon as i turn on nordvpn, everything works.

Luckily with wifi everything is working! i’m assuming this is some IP/DNS conflict? any fix that I could try (I dont want to run 3rd party app in the background) but worth the try nevertheless.

Hi! 2 years later I’m finding this post 'cause I’m in the exact same situation, with no luck at all. Even changed my DNS address and it keeps failing.

I need this, but for me it’s the actual opposite where everything works on mobile but some on Wifi. But as soon as I use a VPN on wifi everything works as normal.

Might be that your phone is set to use a certain DNS by default, which is swapped out with another DNS when VPN is enabled. Check your phone’s default DNS setting; on my device it’s under Settings → Network & internet → Advanced → Private DNS.

Thanks, you’re making sense and I had same thoughts but how exactly can I know what’s my dns once the nordvpn is on?
By default the private dns is “off”.

I don’t know if this method is flawed, but simple online services like https://www.top10vpn.com/tools/what-is-my-dns-server/ can tell you what your DNS is. I’m not sure if your result is supposed to match NordVPN’s DNS list, though it would make sense. Might be that the NordVPN app also can tell you if it uses a different DNS. Regarding private DNS I have mine set to “Automatic” which apparently means the DNS becomes encrypted whenever possible, but I don’t know if it makes any difference for your problem.

Interesting. But yeah I tried to automatic. I manually put different dns’s and none of the options make difference.

Hmm, that is strange. I’ll admit I’m running out of suggestions now. I wonder, does it only work with NordVPN, or do other VPN apps like NextDNS, Blokada (if a DNS is set in it, I guess), or 1.1.1.1 work?
