Since we get a lot of asking for VPN provider recommendations, we’re making this megathread a monthly occurrence (you’ll find the newest one at the top subreddit menu). It’s a chance for you to ask for or recommend your favorite provider.
When recommending a provider, you must mention at least a couple points for why you prefer it. Don’t just list VPN features that are common knowledge - explain why you chose it. Comments simply mentioning a provider’s name aren’t allowed. No affiliate links, links to review sites, or VPN provider websites. No shilling either.
You might also want to check out our comparison table. We update it regularly so you could find a provider that ticks all your boxes. There’s also a pinned special deals thread for when you decide.
Keep in mind this megathread will still be looked after by the mods.
I’m the founder of a new VPN startup, GamingVPN.
I recommend my VPN because we do things a bit different:
- We double-encrypt with our custom, dynamic algos over Wireguard. This means our VPN data is not identifiable as VPN traffic and we also utilize the incredibly amazing Wireguard cryptographic routing stack.
- Because of our dynamic, double-encryption, our VPN works in countries like China, Egypt, etc.
- We have a zero-knowledge tech stack that never knows the User’s private decryption keys. This means the user’s decryption/private key is only known to/stored on the User’s PC, never on our servers.
- All of our servers have their VPN configured in RAM (read-only). Everything is lost on power-outage.
- Because we have no user decryption keys, and our servers operate the VPN in RAM, and with how our double-encryption works, it is technically impossible for us to log VPN traffic. We couldn’t decrypt/log if somebody paid us to.
- We provide users with the most empty/unused VPN servers first. Unlike other VPN providers, each user will connect to our most EMPTY servers at any moment in time, versus the traditional VPN company method of packing many users on a server at once.
- We are FAST. Our goal is a VPN that can be used while gaming without sacrificing any competitive edge.
- We are a small, lean startup, meaning that our VPN service is going to be shaped by our users. Our customer feedback will determine the functionality/features of our VPN service.
Note: We aren’t accepting any customers now as we are in our technical BETA phase. During our BETA, using our VPN network is 100% free. We are doing this because we value feedback and want to have a solid product when we finally do enter the market with sales open.

I’ve used Freedome VPN (F-Secure) for several years. On Macos I often had a problem connecting, or the connection got lost. On startup it took some time before I got a connection, often half a minute. It didn’t automatically reconnect, didn’t detect the lost connection automatically. The only way to solve this without disabling the service was to select another connection point, then go back to the original. I’ve tried vpn-servers in different countries, but that didn’t make a difference. On Android it worked like a charm. On iOS there were connection problems as well, although much less than on Macos.
Just recently I moved over to Mozilla VPN (Mullvad) and up til now it’s a big improvement over Freedome with connecting. The connection is immediate on Macos and iOS and it stays on. I haven’t had any lost connections. The only downside is that the app must run in the application bar in Macos. If you quit that, VPN is gone. It should be an icon in the task bar, like Freedome had.
Well, I didn’t expect to be here, but…
Up until yesterday I was a very happy customer of TunnelBear. Reasonably easy setup on my devices and good speeds. And then, for some reason, they turned on filtering of torrents. I don’t mean pirating (though I suspect those are as well) but literally can’t get the latest version of Ubuntu or a couple other distributions. My understanding from their support is that there is a reason for this that they didn’t want to go into.
So I’m now a reasonably happy camper with Mullvad. Slightly faster speeds, and I personally find their client easier to use and configure.
My .02 worth anyway.
I’m currently with NordVPN but my subscription is ending soon. After that data breach a couple of years ago I wanted to switch to another.
So far I’m looking between Mullvad and Surfshark and maybe ProtonVPN.
I usually just torrent and want something that is fast, stable and will recode as little logs as possible of where I’ve been. If any of these are possible which would be the best? or should I just stick to NordVPN?
I use my own VPN called Unleashed VPN. I use it because I know there are no logs collected from my end, I can’t say for certain if the data centres I rent my VPS from log data, however from previous DMCA complaints I assume not as they are never able to give me the offending IP of a client torrent downloading. The protocol used is v2ray + TLS + WS + CDN only, as it is a proven protocol for bypassing censorship in China and avoiding VPN server blocks. Also the VPN can be installed on my router, giving network wide uncensored internet.
I moved a few weeks ago from NordVPN to Sharksurf. My main reason was price, but now I am used to the app I must say it was a great choice.
Speeds are just as good as Nord and although I signed up for two years I was offered a discount on the third year, which I took up.
I am using the anti virus included which has replaced the more expensive Bitdefender. It may not be as good in tests, but for me, it works very well.
Does anyone know of any browser extension VPN’s that allow for a custom DNS? Most providers seem to have this as an option in their base application only, and not in the browser version. I am using Pi-Hole locally so trying to find a good solution; as I don’t want to use the VPN outside of my browser and split-tunneling is often unreliable.
im looking for a vpn thats good for torrenting
one that doesnt save logs and doesnt mine crypto lol
Does anybody know of a VPN service that includes a Cleveland or Columbus Ohio server?
I’m looking for VPN to stream region locked content on an android device. I’d like to be able to cast this to a chromecast if at all possible.
Thanks
I’ve been using PIA for years, but lately it has had constant situations where the wifi connection is stable without it, it connects without any issue, but then lets no actually flow through and constantly restarts. This, combined with a certain streaming platform blocking access to its IPs, means that its value is plummeting for me.
As such, I’d like to hear other people’s opinions on it or about any alternatives.
EDIT: Adjusted to thread.
Thanks guys, amazing work!!
Any daily traders recommend ones from the comparison table? I currently have Express VPN and looking at Nord or Mullvad!
Wish they would allow Bybit in the US market!
i am looking for a vpn that xsolla/twitch allows payments from and doesnt flag. I tried using proxies from oxylab and smartproxy but they flag my purchase as fraud with turkey or brazil or other country proxy.
Twitch gives different price for country like steam or netflix but they seem to detect vpn or proxy. Is there a vpn that works and has server in turkey or brazil?
I’m going to be working abroad in Greece for about 5 months and really want to be able to access my regular streaming content while I’m away! I only need the VPN for this purpose— I will not be pirating anything, simply just want to be able to access Hulu, etc while I’m in Greece. If anyone can give a rec for this, I’d really appreciate it!
For my buck, Windscribe deserves a spot in the top tier VPNs. It’s served me well in China for 4 years and counting. Hardly ever goes down unlike some other VPNs my foreign friends use.
AXSVPN is a really good option works amazingly everywhere gaming watching blocked content and the price is awesome $23.88/year or 1.99 a month
Is there a good no logs vpn that I can game on comfortably??
Which one did you end up getting? I have the same options as well on my mind.
