I get that. When people know the person, and know they’d appreciate/enjoy the gift, that’s great. Maybe I should specify that in my opinion, I don’t think they should be gifts from a spouse (In most situations) If they’re gifts from someone else I think they should be a joint gift. I think it’s shitty for everyone to be sitting around with their fun gifts, and one person is sitting there with a vacuum cleaner or something.

Ah I get what you are saying. As a kid I would buy my mother kitchen stuff to bake cookies and decorate etc. It was because she was always happy making cookies with me.
Years later I learned she absolutely hates to cook or bake but saw that it made me happy and she enjoyed that.
