Need help figuring out VPN for remote access

Howdy guys/galls!

I recently accuired a home lab setup so I can host my own home cloud/host a few servers.

I’m looking to set up a VPN on my network so I can remotely access my resources when I go overseas for work however I’m NOT a networking guy. I’m a network analyst, and frankly I’m a bad one as it is. That being said I’ll get to it.

So I want a self hosted VPN (idk what I what to use, suggestions?) and I want to be able to use it to access my resouces (as stated above). I feel like my biggest hurdle is going to be getting my traffic to pass through my ISP router so I can acccess these resources. Then it will be configuring the VPN so my traffic is encrypted to and from my home network.

Can someone with a little more knowledge than myself please assist? I have Discord (ImpossiBlueTV) if you’d like to assist me over voice.

Thanks guys. Sorry to be such a noob.

The easy answer is to use Tailscale.

The better, more involved answer is to use NetBird.

The most involved answer will be to set up Wireguard directly.

If you really don’t understand basic networking, then 2 and 3 will be more difficult for you, as they do involve understanding subnets and basic routing.

Tailscale won’t even require you to open a port…
