Netflix not working on laptop with VPN

I often watch Netflix on my laptop with no problem. Even while I am travelling (and log in from a different location) it works fine. But yesterday I had been using a VPN, and then I tried to watch Netflix and I got the “not on your network” message. When I turned the VPN off, Netflix worked again.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on? Thanks.

Netflix is tightening the household restrictions. That’s what’s going on.

But people can travel with their laptops and use those networks. Wasn’t that what Netflix allows?
