Hello, Sorry if this has been asked before but could not find…
Has anyone successfully used the TvOS NordVPN app in the US to locate to a different city and watch programming with YouTube TV? I am located in the MidWest but want to watch sports programming in the San Francisco area. Please let me know your experiences, suggestions, etc. Thank you very much!
I have an OpenVPN server running on my router, and can use the Passepartout app on my AppleTV device to connect to my OpenVPN server.
This allows me to watch YTTV (or any other app) on my AppleTV device from my “home network” regardless of where I am in the world – this is possible because AppleTV doesn’t have a built-in GPS receiver, so the app can only use your IP address. I can confirm this works for YTTV.
It has worked very well for me; in fact, I’ve used it to watch programming from other countries. Once you install it, TvOs will ask you to make some changes to the system (the usual stuff), but it works.
If you need a trial, you can try it here: https://refer-nordvpn.com/EZVnjxWlGhw
Thanks
That is correct if you do not use a VPN to change your IP address and just use YTTV as is.
VPN is supposed to bypass that. Will see what others say.
Did you get it to work? I was able to get it to work on MLB league pass on Apple TV since Apple TV doesn’t have GPS. Will have to try later to see if it works with YouTube tv too
Thanks for sharing. I wouldn’t begin to know how to set up something like that though. I’m just hoping the NordVPN tvOS app will work with my Apple TV. If not, it’s no big deal, I’m just out $13 for a 1mo/ subscription. I’ve read that some people have had luck.
Thanks. I already have it installed What you say is true for other countries, it does work well and I’ve used it that way, but using it to change location in YouTubeTV from one US city to another US city does not work with the tvOS app on an Apple TV. I’ve turned off location services in Apple TV but still cannot get it to work. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
