Paying a few bucks per few months for Mullvad is worth it for me IMO because you get a privacy respecting, Google-powered search engine (Mullvad Leta), DNS Content Blocking, Quantum-secure traffic, Obfuscation, a GUI client thats basically ported to every Linux distros package manager including independent ones like NixOS which is what I use and most importantly, Mullvad Browser.
Mullvad VPN got searched by the feds once and they got no data. You can pay for Mullvad with cryptographic currencies. You can use Mullvad VPN with The Onion Router so you don’t even gotta worry about Mullvad knowing your real IP whilst still being able to access more sites because you just appear as a VPN user not a TOR one. Mullvad partnered with the TOR Project to make a browser and they literally use torproject.org gpg keys.
