I pay for proton VPN. I can get ~500Mbps on Google 1 but only about 250Mbps on Proton VPN. Curious what speeds others are seeing. Is the max it can do? Is that 250Mbps good for a paid VPN service?
We haven’t done the speed comparison, but regarding privacy, Google’s VPN is not a good idea: https://protonvpn.com/blog/google-vpn/ (we do understand that this is now outdated, as the service is being discontinued).
But is Google private?
250Mbps is the same speed as my home broadband, and that’s more than enough to stream audio, video, synch stuff to and from the cloud and work from home. In short, I’m not seeing any problem here.
You might as well not bother with a VPN at all if you’re going to trust your connection to Google.
Google 1 VPN will be shut down. https://9to5google.com/2024/04/11/google-one-vpn-discontinued/
If you have fast home internet, Proton VPN+'s testing speed will be faster than that of Google One. However, real experience can be different.
I can get 400mbps on Proton VPN. Probably OP should change the server.
If google services are acceptable to you to use, why use any Proton services at all? Protonmail? Drive? etc.
People move away from Google services for a reason.
just tested, speedtest.net showed me ~700 Mbps (on 1 Gbps connection).
I’d never touch anything with the word Google in it
are you using wire guard for both?
Try different servers. I get ~290 Mbps when Proton VPN is on and I have a 300mbps service.
I get at minimum 700Mbps down and 800Mbps up. Are you using OpenVPN or Wireguard protocol?
Nah you didnt pay for shit. . “Idk what protocol im using i just have it on auto” of course you do… Smh.
I have 800/900mbs with protonvpn, use wire guard protocol
Trusting google as a vpn is wild
Are yous on about the paid or free Proton VPN?
I’ve pushed more than 1 gigabit without issue before, haven’t tested since I got my 8 gigabit installed though so I should probably give that a go. Sometimes it’s a matter of selecting the right paid server rather than using the automatic selection. I personally build WG profiles and then use those and it’s insanely fast.
I get 220Mb down with a secure core server and 515Mb with a regular server, my ISP plan is 500Mb.
What? Google says people weren’t using their VPN? I can’t imagine why privacy minded people wouldn’t choose to route all of their internet traffic through googles servers, can you?!?
