Phone overheating

Recently, my phone has been overheating excessively. I understand its using much more power but, its getting hot to the point of not being able to touch when i go to pick it up and will say need to let phone cool before using. Any tips?

EDIT - I want to also add, this only happens when im using specific apps. Sorry for not adding that huge detail. Social medias are fine. Apps such as editors or Movie Players, Games. Im no tech wiz but, i reccen these are apps using much more power. I csn run a movie fully through without it on and no heat issues. Just with VPN on. Ive tried switching settings and different battery usage settings but it doesnt seem to bust.

Can you please contact us via the ‘Report an issue’ option in the app menu so we can investigate further?

In the report, please let us know:

  • Your device model, OS version & Proton VPN app version
  • Was there any app version that was not draining that much battery/causing overheat?
  • Could you please send us a screenshot of the battery usage list?
  • Are there any other apps that have a high use of the battery on your phone?
  • Do you have other VPN applications installed?

can confirm my phone doesn’t get hot with proton vpn enabled

Uninstall the app and test it again.

For sure. Even tested it. Played around with settings. Gets hot with acceleration off and exponentially hotter with acceleration on. Maybe one is just quicker to heat up but definitely

I’m on iPhone 15 and literally looked this up cause I think I’m experienced the same. Phone has been completely fine up until I started using VPN all the time. It wasn’t overly hot using on its own, but definitely hotter, however, I notice that if I use maps for more than 20-30min while VPN is on, maps get so laggy its practically unusable, and it tells me its overheated. I use maps all the time for long drives and never experienced this before I kept vpn on.

My device gets hot while in use of ProtonVPN. Great vpn service. No complaints. Really enjoying using it. But device is heating up pretty hot

It is. I’m having the same issue on iPhone 15 and have tested it a lot. It’s not unusable on normal use, but if I use it along with maps or other strenuous apps, my phone overheats bad, maps barely works and tells me it’s overheated.
