Pixel 9 XL Pro VPN Not Working On Beta

Ever since I upgraded to the 15 Beta my VPN no longer connects. Says check router or firewall settings on every Wi-Fi network. Is this a common thing?

I am holding back from the QPR1 Beta since I just want to keep 15 up on release.

I have the same problem on Pixel 8 on Android 15 Beta. But two weeks ago it was working perfectly on A15 beta.

Same here on Pixel 8 Pro, 15 beta (not QPR). It worked 2 weeks ago, but it doesn’t any more.

Same on Pixel 7 pro, since the 29th/30th of Sept I’d say.

Cloudflare for Security = 1.1.1.2 1.0.0.2 2606:4700:4700::1112 2606:4700:4700::1002
DoH = https://security.cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query

NextDNS hits a sweet spot, combining both malware + adguard filtering but costs $19.90 a year

What VPN are you using?

I’m on QPR2 (edit: I’m dumb, it’s QPR1), on wifi, and the VPN is working.

I don’t intend on sounding snooty, but… Could it have been a temporary issue? Also, I don’t use it regularly but just tested it now to see if I was experiencing the same issue.

The built in Google one

Seems to be specific to the non QPR Beta

I wouldn’t use that anyway… privacy issues.

I do occasionally turn it on if I connect to public WiFi in places like airports, coffee shops, airports etc, but if you’re using mobile data it’s a waste of time.

Maybe try Warp by Cloudflare:

If you just need private DNS then open your network settings, tap on Private DNS, and add:

one.one.one.one

to the private DNS provider hostname

This will route your DNS through the Cloudflare name servers and prevent your service provider from monitoring your traffic.

It’s faster too.

I believe that one was discontinued here in the US

Sorry, I edited my original post - I’m on QPR1 (https://developer.android.com/about/versions/15/release-notes) but on beta 2.

Check if you’re on beta 2, perhaps? (dumb theory, but… maybe?)

Or maybe - and this is also going to sound stupid - do you have the quick setting tile “disabled”? If you tap/hold, it’ll open up a screen with the switch set to off. Try turning it on from there? I just checked at my end again and it connected.

Frankly I just use it at work because the firewall on their network blocks most leisure (social) websites and apps.

You prefer cloud flare over adguard for dns? Or is it more or less the same?

I have. Still won’t connect.

It’s blocked by your work firewalls in that case.

Use mobile data instead

I’m not paranoid, so I’m not too bothered.

Cloudflare DNS works for me, and I’m happy with it

Hmm… Okay.

  • open the screen where you can enable/disable the VPN.

  • go to Recents, tap the icon, tap App Info.

  • Tap “Force Stop”, then tap “Storage and cache”, then tap “Clear storage”.

  • In the main App Info screen, tap “Mobile data usage” and see if “background data” is on.

  • In the main App info screen, tap “App battery usage” and see if “Allow background usage” is on.

You could alternatively, if none of this works, uninstall it from the Play Store (see the option at the bottom of the App Info screen) and then reinstall it.

Connection is weak :frowning:
