Port forwarding XBOX VPN Wireguard

Hey there, total clueless guys here. Background information: I’m from Germany and my ISP (Telekom Germany) apparently has crap routing, which is why I experience packet loss in Apex Legends ever since. While doing some research I discovered that using a VPN solves the problem. So I got myself a AR300M16 Shadow and set up my VPN (Mullvad). Packet loss now seems to be gone. Yay! However, I’m not sure if the port forwarding options I enabled are correct. You can choose between wan, guestzone and wireguard. Since I need a VPN connection while gaming I chose wireguard. Is this correct? Since installing the AR300M16 my NAT changed to moderate. Before using a VPN it was open. UPnP is also disabled since using the VPN. Any way to change this? My AR300M16 is connected to another (main) router.

Thanks for your help!

Since you’re connected to a VPN, port forwarding should be done on their website. However, to my knowledge, Mullvad allows forwarding five random ports only. Not many VPN providers allow port forwarding.

Does the VPN service you are paying for have port forward capabilities in the first place?

Before using a VPN it was open.

Correct because you were connecting to the game directly through your ISP, you now added the VPN which is another layer of complexity and impacts your NAT status

Yes, it has port forwarding capabilities. But I don’t know how to set it up

Did you look over this?

Mull no longer supports port forwarding.

Thanks for the heads up
