If I sign up for the year of ExpressVPN + year of Backblaze bundle, am I then able to pay the additional $2 per month to Backblaze for upgrading from 30 day retention to 1 year retention or am I locked into the 30 day retention plan that is included? Thanks.

You are not locked, you can pay the additional $2/month at any time and get either the 1 year retention or the “Forever Version History”.
One of the things we try hard to preserve at Backblaze is that very few things are “fatal” or “one way”. We honestly not trying to trick customers into one setting or another. For example, the “Groups” feature is the ability for one Backblaze account to pay for a group of other people’s backups. This is called “Business Groups” because the most common use for this is a company pays for all the computers in the company to be backed up. It’s too much trouble to type in the same credit card 5,000 times to backup 5,000 computers for a business with 5,000 employees.
But it’s the same identical price. And you can move in and out of groups, so if you try out groups and don’t like it, leave the group, or join a different group.
At any time you can enable the “B2” functionality. If you don’t like it, you can disable it. Later you can enable it again.
In full disclosure, there are some things that are “one way trips” that you cannot return from. If you go onto the Backblaze website and “delete” your backup - that’s not reversible because we reclaim that disk space for other paying customers to use. If you let your free trial expire the same thing happens. You can change your 1 year retention to 30 days, and you can change it back to 1 year the next day, but you don’t get the 11 months of version history “back”. Changing your version history to 30 days wipes out your ability to restore from further back that moment and that additional history is gone.
