Quick Surfshark VPN review

I’m a seasoned Surfshark customer by now but I’ve never put in my two cents on any review sites or anything, so thought I’d share a couple thoughts here.

First off, I’m happy to see the Reddit community growing and being attended to by the mods. It’s the only social media platform I actually enjoy using so it’s nice to have support here.

Now getting down to the technical bits - it’s not all been smooth sailing since I knew nothing about VPNs before I got Surfshark, but having to figure out the best setup for myself has taught me quite a bit. Here’s the setup I’ve settled with:

  • Devices: 2 iPhones (enjoying the new widgets), 2 Macs, and 1 Windows laptop, so getting use out of unlimited devices
  • Killswitch: on at all times (working as should)
  • Protocol: Wireguard (don’t switch around anymore since I’ve found it to be fastest in most cases)
  • Most-used servers: whatever the “Fastest” option is for browsing, US/UK/Canada for streaming
  • Speed: up to 10% loss, usually around 5%
  • Lag: none that I’ve noticed (I’m not a gamer though but will occasionally play an online game which goes fine)
  • Streaming: works with legit sites (Netflix, HBO Max, etc.) and illegal ones like Putlocker

All in all not much to report, just that Surfshark suits my VPN needs. I’ve recommended it to others who’ve asked, and will continue doing so as long as it keeps treating me well. Please feel free to ask if I’ve missed anything.

Can you access amazon tho? Because I sure as hell can’t anymore, not to mention that the “whitelister” feature doesn’t even whitelist stuff, it just “make it seem” as if it’s whitelisted, but if the server you’re connected to starts getting congested, then your “whitelisted” app is also going to suffer the same fate.

As for gaming, I can safely say that it’s unusable in anything but casual multiplayer games, but if you’re trying to play a game like, for example:

- Valorant

- CSGO

- Dota2

- LoL

- Warzone

- PUBG

- Fortnite (yes even this)

Then you will encounter constant stuttering, and it will become worse and worse until you can no longer “game” while having the VPN connected.

What internet speed to you have? I have 100mbps, and have had issues with streaming. I have a good setup with a nvidia shield and use an Ethernet cable. I’ve been debating if I try a different vpn or if I upgrade my internet speed.

I haven’t had a Prime Video subscription for a while now but I used to have one and Surfshark did work with it. But I’ve been seeing reports of VPNs having a hard time with Amazon lately.

And like I said, I’m not a gamer, so wouldn’t be able to review that side of things unfortunately, but what I do occasionally play with VPN on is Runescape on PC and Among Us on iPhone, and that’s been fine.
