Sanity check - QbittorrentVPN - Do I bind Network interface?

Hello Unraiders,

I have battling this over my pea brain lately and was wondering if you could help me check my sanity.

I have Binhex’s Qbittorrentvpn running on my Unraid server. I have no issues or whatsoever however lately it caught my attention that I may need to bind network interface to wg0(mullvad). This container is standalone and only being used for downloading Linux ISOs. Until recently I had it as “Any interface” which seemed to seed well but then I changed to wg0 thinking it is a killswitch and if vpn goes down then it would stop downloads as well. After the change, it still seed but now as well as before.

  1. Do I need to bind to wireguard Network interface?
  2. Do you recommend a separate VPN container and pass Qbit through it?
  3. At the moment, Qbit vpn IP is different to my normal IP but how do I check if I am not leaking?
  4. Do I need to have *Arr apps via vpn. I don’t have it and seems forum don’t recommend as well.

  1. The binhex qbittorrent is designed to work with the build in vpn. It should setup the vpn connection, and then rules so that all internet traffic is going through the vpn (and not working if the vpn goes down). So you shouldn’t have to bind it. If you do, it might (though I’m not sure) even cause issues with others apps (like the starr apps) connecting to it.

  2. Generally, I would say yes. Each container has it’s own function. However, I like the binhex qbit one, I trust it, it has scripts for private internet access users to open and configure a port, and it prevents issues with docker dns on a private network.

  3. in the container, curl ifconfig.io to check the ip, iknowwhatyoudownload to see if something is detected, and torguard torrent check to see the ip they detect for downloading torrents.

  4. Generally no. They don’t download anything (illegal), they just look up stuff, like a user might browse imdb. Adding vpn could cause issues.

I am using Settings/VPNmanager with wg0 and docker container is set to wg0. thats it. Also mullvad.

Thank you. much appreciated…

This is old but thanks. This helped me easily determine a few things and curl ifconfig.io is a nice little trick I didn’t know before.

interesting… so you are using mullvad config on vpn manager within unraid and use its network while setting up container. Is that what you are saying?

I have been using Unraid over a year now but I still consider noob. Is there a guide to test this?

yeah thats a easy way but I use Privoxy so need container. Sure can connect via unraid and just download privoxy container haha

do you notice any speed difference compared to container VPN?

I have tried only for few months but went ahead with qbitvpn. It’s just simple this way and have been using ever since.
