I’m going back to college soon and the internet restrictions there are unbearable. Pretty much nothing https and http work. However, it’s possible to establish tcp based vpn connections through this firewall. I have already tested this and the ping and throughput are both pretty good. However, I’m not sure where to host this vpn server. I tried looking at azure and then a random small name vps provider but the ip addresses from both are detected as possible vpn ip addresses. Many games and streaming services do not like this.
I could host it on a SBC like raspberry pi at my home but my home is in east India and that increases the ping to game servers considerably. Ideally, I want to host this on a residential IP address in Mumbai. Is there any way to do this or some other suggestions? I would be willing to pay for an internet connection in Mumbai but I still need a place to keep the raspberry pi and provide power to it.
Interesting… but i am kind of unsure if someone will host that SBC for you given the risks involved of what kind of data flow through it and getting a static ip will also attract additional charges i believe .
Oracle cloud gives 2 basic vps for free. Not sure how good their routing is. Aws and gcp are pretty good.
Try running your vpn there.
Yeah I’m trying to convince some friends but was hoping someone here would have a better idea
That’s not the issue. These ip addresses are data center ip and blocked on services.
They have residential ip? You sure?
That’s the only way i believe to get a pure residential ip with less latency to your college . The other ways were obviously getting some vpns but they are easily recognisable as datacenter ips , although i have seen vpn providers with dedicated residential ip range but again i am confident that such providers do not have that dedicated ip addon in mumbai region let alone in asia .
