I’m surprised Docker doesn’t work, there’s was a live demo of it running on a Snapdragon computer by the Docker CEO from Microsoft’s recent build event.
Nice! I’ve been using an ARM laptop as my main and mostly only computer for about 2 years now. Previously I had a modded IBM T60 that I ran fanless with an aftermarket battery that got me over 7 hours of runtime.
I don’t do as many technical things as I used to, and I use my steam deck for gaming.
Haven’t really had any compatibility issues, except at first because it was on Windows 10, so only 32 bit x86 apps worked. Only thing that doesn’t work is drivers, as you need ARM specific ones.
It’s a samsung galaxy book go. The main hardware limitation is the 4GBs RAM, but I know there’s a later 8GB version.
I was looking at the new samsung one, as it’s the first samsung laptop I’ve ever had (they’re not really popular here in Canada) and I really like it, but the 14 inch is missing the USB A and microSD so I’ll skip it and save cash.
Razer Strider Chroma mat (+ Chroma / Synapse software to configure it)
EDIT: Microsoft Surface Thunderbolt4 Dock (including 5120x1440@120Hz on my Oled G9 49" monitor + 2.5Gbps ethernet)
Does not work:
OWC 10 Gigabit Ethernet = Does Not Work
Works Partially:
Lenovo Thinkpad Thunderbolt 4 dock (40B0): USB devices connected to it do work, but the HDMI resolution is limited and the DisplayPort won’t work at all
Anyone try Lightroom Classic in emulation? I know Photoshop and Lightroom (CC) have been ported to ARM, but LrC will never be due to it’s old architecture. LrC runs on Macs under Rosetta emulation, so I hope Prism will allow the same for Windows.
Citrix Workspace per se works, however its app protection module can’t be installed since it refuses to run relevant services (i.e. entryprotectsvc). I tried to force its installation but even when running with digital signature checks off, or with my user assigned in logon as a service, I was not able to get through.
*With the caveat that the majority of settings and options are missing in the universal driver that you have in the printer specific drivers from the manufacturer.
I’m an Ableton Live diehard user and man I really hope they get this working. I can’t expect to get a laptop where that doesn’t run, and that’s to say nothing of VSTs and such. That said, I’ve seen the performance of FL Studio under emulation and it’s actually very impressive, keeps neck and neck with an m2 pro. The groundwork is definitely there, it just needs to be refined.
