[Solved] Slow Download Speeds for MSFS (McAfee Total Protection Users)

Hello!

As the rest of the internet, I was suffering from extremely slow download speeds on MSFS (<4mbps on a gigabit connection). I tried everything on the internet including the netsh command, delivery optimization, using a VPN (which improved speeds to about 16mbps).

I was pretty much ready to give up when I decided to scour through the settings on my McAfee app that works as a VPN, anti-virus and firewall on my system. I made a few changes and currently MSFS is downloading at >300mbps and it’s holding that speed consistently. I made 2 changes and I don’t know which one fixed it but here they are:

  1. Opened the Windows file sharing ports on ports and system services.
  2. Turned OFF netguard for MSFS under “Internet connection for programs”.

I don’t know if this will help you but it worked for me so if you’re using McAfee to protect your system, it’s worth a shot.

McAfee is terrible in general

You’d have a much better experience uninstalling it altogether

Honestly, I agree. Signed up for a year and I’m waiting to run it out.

What do you use?

I just use Windows Defender paired with Malwarebytes free tier. Defender is very good these days.
