Fav moments so far:
- Rhûn is absolutely nuts - really amazing Arabic feel and loads of energy
- Ben Walker singing Golden Leaves is beautiful
- The River-Daughter takes lyrics from “Hop along, my little friends, up the Withywindle!”
- Daniel Weyman/Rory Kinnear singing Tom Bombadil is absolutely perfect
- Concerning Stoors is very Hobbit-y, with a bit more of a Rhûnic influence. Also some similarities to Nori’s theme
- The Sun Also Shines sounds like a hell of an ending
- wowowowowowow Emissary at the Forge. Possibly the best rendition of Sauron’s theme so far, love how it winds around the ring-forging motif from S1
- The Great Eagle! Basically the Numenor theme ramped up 1000%
- I adore how The Stranger’s theme becomes so much grander and more majestic at the end of The Staff, basically shedding all the mysteriousness from the original version.
This is the album version, remember we had the complete soundtrack after each episode.
The reprise of “Old Tom Bombadil” featuring Rory Kinnear and Daniel Weyman made me smile so hard <3
Shoot, I don’t have a VPN subscription anymore
he absolutely NAILED the bombadil songs including The River-daughter sung by bear’s wife
Golden leaves >>>
How does it compare to season 1?
For those asking, I did the math and the total runtime is 100min50sec or 1hr41min when rounding up.
Which means it’s about 50 mins shorter than the season 1 OST, but still longer than most traditional Television OST releases which run at 75-90 minutes of music. However, keep in mind that the season 1 OST included a lot of theme suites and Shore’s main title. These tracks totalled about 40 minutes of music. If we just look at the cues, then the season 2 soundtrack is about 20 minutes shorter than season 1. Not bad at all!
Note as well that we will be getting complete score albums from each episode as they air, which will each total 50-55 minutes in length. So approx 7.5hrs of music on top of this 1.6hr compilation album. Thats a lot of music to enjoy and we’re only on season 2
Still 3 more seasons to go with another 21hrs of music left to be written and released in case you wanted the hard numbers on that!
Golden Leaves is everything.
Damn, no VPN. I wanna listen
It’s out in Australia now, too.
After first listening my standouts are:
- Rhûn 2. Golden Leaves 3. Battle for Eregion 4. Barrow-Wights 5. Last Temptation 6. Cirdan’s Perfection 7. Sandstorm at the Well
They used a lot of the S1 songs motives in new and enchanced arrangements, but still S2 soundtrack feels milder in comparison to the S1.
Anyone else missing the Numenor Music?
There is a fair chunk happening in Numoenor, where is the music for it?
with NZ vpn it just the Old Tom Bombadil (feat. Rufus Wainwright) song only?!
There’s also an insane metal song “The Last Ballad of Damrod”, which is a very strong evil theme.
It’s on Spotify, without a VPN! It shows the range of Bear McCreary as a composer!

Hope someone leaks it so we can listen , don’t want to pay for a vpn
Are you on Amazon Music? There’s nothing on Spotify.
“Forgiveness Takes an Age” is my first immediate favorite.
