I have searched around and seen many YouTube videos on how to set up a VPN on Dream Machine. It all seems pretty easy and straightforward but somehow I cannot connect. Does anybody have an idea what might be the reason here? Thanks in advance!
Open network and sharing center. Then click on change adapter settings.
Find the vpn connection you set up, right click, properties. Go to the security tab and under allow these protocols choose Challenge Handshake and Microsoft CHAP Version 2
Thanks so much for that. I have indeed done that and hoped all would work but unfortunately not.
Have you figured it out yet?
I assume your DM has a wan IP?
You have setup a radius server with secret and users with l2tp tunnel type and ipv4 tunnel medium?
Double check the connection you setup in windows with the user, password and preshared secret.
It should work. I can’t think of anything else right now.
Nope, sadly still not resolved … Breaking my brains because I have done indeed all you mentioned and redone it three times now and checked all passwords, keys, username, IP Address… It keeps coming up with that “THE L2TP CONNECTION ATTEMPT FAILED BECAUSE SECURITY POLICY FOR THE CONNECTION WAS NOT FOUND”.
NO idea where I need to look/check anymore for what is wrong and why it does not work…
Is your UDM behind a NAT? If so, try this command in an elevated CMD:
REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent /v AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
Reboot Windows and it should work
Thanks for your time & suggestion, much appreciated!
Yes, UDM is indeed behind a NAT. (Our ISP does not bridge their modem unfortunately)
I have done this command and rebooted my laptop but still same behavior. I can see that it has been added to the Registry so the command worked.
The strange thing is, that I can easily connect with my Mobile (Android) phone… VPN Connects almost instantly.
My laptop is of course most important to connect and this is frustrating that it does not work somehow.
I just (Out of frustration) grabbed another laptop here and set up the VPN … and this WORKED!
So, it must be MY laptop with an issue, not sure what that could be, though.
