Thinking about switching to 1Password

Hello guys. I need some opinion/advice about switching to 1Password. I am currently using Dashlane as my password manager and Authy as my 2FA OTP manager.

Dashlane has been unreliable in terms of autofilling on websites/phone apps. Although it stores everything nicely, it doesn’t automatically pop-up when it’s needed the most and I have to manually go to the app and copy the password to paste it.

The nice thing about DL is the pricing. I am paying ₹249 ($2.99) /year for the family plan (supports 6 people) whereas if I move to 1Password, it will cost me ₹620 ($7.44) /month which as you can see is quite the price hike (it’s almost similar to the standard Netflix plan in my country).

I am contemplating mainly due to these two reasons but I haven’t been able to decide yet. Is Dashlane reliable in terms of autofilling on the apps/websites? Is it worth for the price?

1Password is one of the most secure managers out there. I recently switched and loving it. Security is the number one thing.

I’m excited you’re considering making the switch! 1Password is built for security from the ground up.

It starts with encryption—before your 1Password data leaves your device, it is AES-256 bit encrypted by both your Password and Secret Key, meaning your 1Password data cannot be read without those two keys, keys which only you have:

We can’t lose what we don’t have either, so your Password nor Secret Key ever leaves your device. Our Secure Remote Password protocol lets server and device authenticate without those keys leaving your devices, and backing up our security design is PBKDF2 key derivation, which prevents brute forcing to make that encryption all the mightier:

Finally, we’ve had 1Password accounts audited many times and we have a $1,000,000 bug bounty program running. 1Password accounts are also SOC2 type 2 certified for security and availability.

All that just scratches the surface of how 1Password keeps your data safe. I invite you to read more about how security is at the core of 1Password accounts on our security page and take a far deeper dive with our nerdy security white paper:

Drop Netflix, get 1Password

If you are a mac/ios user I would try apple’s built-in password manager. I still have a couple years of 1P because I paid upfront a while ago when there was a discount, so as an experiment I transferred all my passwords/2fa over to the apple manager (while still keeping 1P running as a failsafe). After a few kinks were worked out it’s been great and I wish I could just cancel 1P at this point and get a refund. I haven’t tried the family aspect of the apple pw manager, though, but I know it has that ability. But again this is only if you are in that ecosystem.

It should not be about money. It should always be about security and features. 1Password fits that’s description very well.

1password isn’t nessisarily going to be better at autofilling…especially on Apps. It’s the responsibility of the app developers to properly implement that and few do.

1password is more secure than Dashlane though.

I have the same question. Doubting between dashlane and 1password. What made the difference for me is this device key at 1password. So that I can have a relatively easy password.

Stange the pricing is different in the US from what I can find. The 1password family plan is a few dollars cheaper a month than Dashlane for family plans.

Have a look at Bitwarden and its plans too. More affordable, a bit less polished visually, but seems to take security even a bit more seriously (unless 1Password has fixed its non-encrypted-only export option by now?

I moved from Dashlane to 1P. It (1P) is much smoother and updates are relatively regular. Across all devices. I do not regret it any one but.

I recently started using 1password to store my 2fa codes instead of authy and its pretty slick. love the autofill

Ok so if I download 1password will I be protected even if I give somebody control over my computer by downloading attended.remotepc.com in my computer?? This company is helping me with a class and need acess to my pc but they told me to download attended.remotepc software so they can take control of my pc. I am not saying theybare gonna scam me but you never know. Lol. Or should I just change all my passwords before I give them access??

If you are an IOS user, then good idea, if Android then no (lots of autofill problems)

Well I am not going to talk about money because it is relative issue to all of us. For someone to much for someone ok. You do what you can and what you can afford.

That said I moved to 1Password lately from another Password manager. Mostly do to

  • Ease of you use
  • Very easy sharing in family plan
  • Passkeys
  • AUDITED

Compared to my previous Password manager all of things made me smile. I never used Dashlane so I cant say nothing regarding that.

What I am sure is that I don’t see any reason for you not to be satisfied from my perspective. Really slick and usable.

What annoys me is fact that on their site you pay full price for something and than you find on some random site 50% discount…not qll. I am almost 30 years in sales…YOU DON’T DO THAT.

Been a user since 2008 I think. Most important app for me and first app in my home page.

Dashlane is a joke. One of our clients use them and they have been unable do fix a bug for about 2 months now’s

They store your data on their own servers so you’re really trusting AgileBits with your data - to keep it secure and not loose it. I’ve been with 1Password for 17 years and now that they insist on using their own servers (cloud) and not iCloud, I’m leaving them. Also, they require a subscription so the cost has gone up dramatically in the last 2 years.

We also have this recent blog post too: https://blog.1password.com/1password-vs-dashlane/

XD. I am not subscribed to Netflix. That was just for comparison.
